New Predator Film From Rodriguez?
Rumours of a Robert reboot

30 January 2009  |  Written by Helen O'Hara  |  Source: Bloody Disgusting

submit to reddit

File this firmly under "rumour" for the moment – but don't let that stop you getting excited / outraged. There's a story online that Robert Rodriguez' Troublemaker Studios will produce a remake of Predator, the quintessential men-in-jungle-vs-alien film.

Robert Rodriguez was rumoured to be working on a Predator 3 years ago, which never came to pass, so he's clearly interested in the franchise. But according to Bloody Disgusting, his team in the reboot would face a "mysterious race of vicious monsters", implying that there might be more than one of the alien hunters around.

There's no script as yet – that reference above comes from a pitch going out to writers – but it certainly looks like this is a possibility. So: is this a goddamn sexual Tyrranosaurus of an idea? Or should we all get to da choppa?

Stop the madness
Yet again another pointless remake/re-boot. The only time a film should be remade is if the 1st version was rubbish. The only time a franchise should be rebooted is if the sequels have become so crap that if wouldn't be possible to make a decent continuation. Neither of these things apply to Predator. The 1st is a classic and the 2nd although not as good as the original is still a very good film. As long as you don't count the AVP films then the Predator franchise is ripe for a sequel but not a More

I think it's about time for a remake/boot/imagining/whatever of The Dark Knight. Thats been out for ages now & is well old. When will it end? If things are that bad in hollywood then they should just pay me & my mates to give them loads of new ideas for films. I can't actually believe some people are saying this would be a welcome addition to the whole Predator thing. I'm sorry but there is no way a remake can come close to the orginal in look, feel, music, sound, content, acting or ACTION in anyway shape or form. Its not made for a remake, leave it alone. a reamke. It would be a welcome addition to the franchise in my opinion. Both films are awesome, and I think that another, paticularly one produced by Rodriguez, would work very well. He has to, of course, make some smart choices when it come to picking the actors, not many can top Arnie. More

Math, as seen by the Predator.
"The point for all you young writers is just this: if the constraints of your current project don't specifically forbid it, your best writing will always result from writing your name on the Predator script. If, for whatever stupid reason, this isn't an option, improvise. Improvised dialog feels more real because it's lived. More importantly, it requires no actual writing." More

For/Against
What's the point? AVP is horrible, and Predator is just good solid fun. Do we need another one? No, not really. I'm up for Alien 5 with Scott & Cameron on board, but with regard to a new Predator movie, there's not much else that can be brought to it that has already been done effectively enough. Move on, Fox. I loved the previous 2 (yes even the Danny Glover sequel) and Robert Rodriquez is a superb, entertaing director. This'll give him something to do till Sin City 2 finally gets made. I agree with the others who would advise against a remake as Predator doesn't really need retelling. Alien hunter who come to earth to hunt for trophies, not hard to retell and set up in a new story.
