Crowe and Affleck get serious

Exclusive: State of Play Poster

Courtesy of Universal, here's an exclusive first glimpse of the State Of Play poster, soon to be adorning a bus stop near you.

In keeping with any self-respecting conspiracy thriller, there's a moody, noirish feel to it and plenty of meaningful staring.  Presumably the shady character in the corner will take care of the running around and shooting part.

For those who didn't catch the acclaimed BBC miniseries on which it's based, State Of Play features journalist Cal McAffrey (Russell Crowe), whose investigation into the suspicious death of a prominent politician's mistress plunges him and his editor (Helen Mirren) into a world of corruption.

We're hoping for a combination of the taut plotting of All The President's Men and The Parallax View, the freewheeling thrills of Enemy Of The State, and the double-dealing and sinister scheming of Empire on press day. Is that too much to ask? Will State Of Play be as good as the really-rather-brilliant Beeb drama? We've no idea, but we're looking forward to finding out when it hits cinemas on April 24.

YAWN!! seriously is ANYBODY waiting for this with bated breath? a film of the perfectly acceptable serial with Bill Nighty, David Morrissy and the Life on Mars guy (so why the need for a big movie and so soon after the tv series? - its not like the SFX couldnt be fully realised on a tv budget or anything)....starring Russel 'Thugster' Crowe whos star was on the wane a good 5 years ago - let alone now (Gladiator was nearly a decade ago now Russ!)...and Ben Affleck (surely the worlds poorest ex... Read More
