First Pic From Mr. Nice
Rhys Ifans as Howard Marks

28 January 2009  |  Written by Phil de Semlyen

Filming is underway in Wales on the Howard Marks biopic Mr. Nice, and the kind people at Independent Films have released a first still from the shoot, showing Rhys Ifans in action as the bongtastic Welshman.

There's not a heck of a lot to be said about it in truth, except that it's Marks at a distinctly sober-looking moment, sporting just the teensiest touch of the Liam Gallaghers.

B
earing in mind Marks' rich history as spy, smuggler, scourge of the DEA and one-man garden centre, he's pretty ripe material for a character actor like Ifans, and we're looking forward to seeing the results later this year.

Mr. Nice also stars Chloë Sevigny as Marks' wife Judy, and David Thewlis as Irishman Jim McCann, a republican contact from his trafficking days.

I am so stoked that they are making the life of this inspired genius and one man crusader for all thats good and should be legal in this world to the screen. I am now off to smoke some fattyboombatty and fuck the reclassification by the fachist nanny state we live in. Cheers and good night. More

Can't wait
This should be excellent, especially if they stick to the story and don't do some over the top nonsense. He has had a crazy life full of twists and turns so there would be no need for the 'artisitc licence' treatment some true story films get given. Quality cast too More
