Farrell, Harris And Sturgess On Way Back ...in Peter Weir's war-time escape Source: Variety
Colin Farrell, Ed Harris, Jim Sturgess and Saoirse Ronan are now on The Way Back with Peter Weir, in a true-life story of soldiers who fought to escape a Gulag (that's Soviet labour camp to all non-Russian speakers) in Siberia.
Set in 1942, the script is based on the memoirs of Slavomir Rawicz, and was written by Weir, who hasn't been seen on our screens since he directed Master and Commander: The Far Side Of The World.
Farrell - who is up for a Golden Globe on Sunday for his performance in In Bruges, and recently stepped in for the late Heath Ledger in The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus- is set to play a tattooed Russian hard man prisoner. Harris - who is fresh from directing and starring in Apaloosa- will stick to what he knows in playing an American; and the ubiquitous Sturgess (21 -and later this year in 50 Dead Men Walking andHeartless) will portray a young Pole. The fugitives are then joined by a fleeing young Russian, played by Ronan, who has just finished shooting The Lovely Bones with Peter Jackson.
The film will begin production in March in Bulgaria.

He has worked with Spielberg, Mann, Malick, Stone, Robert Towne, Woody Allen, Neil Jordan, Terry Gilliam...and while not all the films have worked, I'd love to be in his shoes! Will be interesting to see Farrell and Sturgess in the same film. The latter is really making a name for himself lately and Farrell seems to be enjoying a bit of a resurgence. Long may it continue for both!
I wonder what kind of accents will be used for the film though? It'll be good to see Peter Weir back either way, I really liked and Commander ... Read More
Genuinely talented actor who has been fucking brilliant in the last 12 months. In Bruges and Pride and Glory were two of his strongest performances. I really liked Miami Vice too - Michael mann does not make bad films. ... Read More
Is Colin Farrel's star back on the rise, kick-started by In Bruges? Seems that way... about time too, great actor wasted on useless films for what seems like forever! ... Read More
