New Terminator Salvation Trailer Online
And it be awesome.

submit to reddit

The new trailer for Terminator Salvation has gone online over at Apple and… wowee. It looks the business.

Combining some of the footage seen at Comic-Con and Empire’s own Movie-Con with brand-new effects heavy stuff (including a doozy of a last shot), the new trailer for McG’s Terminator sequel lays out some more of the plot – Christian Bale’s John Connor and his troops are fighting, and losing, to SkyNet’s machines when amnesiac Marcus (Sam Worthington) comes into their lives – than the teaser.

We also get to see some more of the characters, with Anton Yelchin doing his best to sound like a raspy, teenaged Kyle Reese, Common as fellow rebel Barnes, Bryce Dallas Howard as Connor’s wife Kate, and Moon Bloodgood as Blair.

But, though there’s plenty of time dedicated to Sam Worthington, who may or may not be a Terminator, it’s clear that Warners is marketing this as the Christian Bale show – and, after The Dark Knight, that’s hardly a surprise. Bale dominates the trailer, with plenty of intense dialogue and glimpses of major action beats, including one where mean-looking Terminator bikes zip after the rebels at impressive speeds.

And the teaser also throws up some questions, notably about the existence of that much-rumoured, highly controversial ending, which we thought had been debunked. But you never know…

Either way, it’s been a while since a trailer for a major movie demanded a frame-by-frame play – and finally we have one, for a movie that looks like it could actually be worthy of following in James Cameron’s mighty footsteps.

Click here to watch the new trailer for McG’s Terminator Salvation and then, by all means, do come back here to have a good old natter.

Trailer
It's official, John is not and will never become a robot. The big transformer might be ok when you're wrapped up in the film. You won't know until you see it. The trailer was alright. It's a trailer and not much can be pinned on it. Spielborg's notion that you can pitch a film in less than 25 words... yes you can, but you can't tell if it's going to be any good. Same with a trailer. That's all it is, an advert. Bale is always great, I will not hear anything to the contrary. What we can More

I watched The Terminator late last night - still a classic. Thinking about it, it's quite easy to see how Connor became such a fine leader.   For a start, he has a 20 year preparation period cos he knows what's coming. And he also knows exactly who to send back to ensure his survival. The more I think about the entire story, the more I appreciate Cameron as a genius. Still don't like Titanic though. Sorry, Tech. Just because a film has Giant Robots in it doesn't make it a Transformers clone. Did you see them transform? No, exactly. I can think of several movies off hand that used good old stop motion animation to bring giant mechs to the big screen during the 80's. Anyone else remember Robot Jox or Arena. And besides the Transformers film bore little more than a passing resemblance to Transformers they looked far more in line with Manga style Mechs than they're 80's counterparts. Personally, I liked the trailer. Thought the sandy/cold blue tones worked well, thought the scenes of humans in captivity looked frightening (especially with what appears to be a human garbage compressor with spikes), and thought Bryce Dallas Howard looks lovely, even nicer than she did in Spidey 3. Continuity f**ked then is it McG! seeing as this is set before the glimpses of the war we got in both T1 and T2 where did all the super sleek snazzy Terminator gizmos come from? The worst they had to contend with before was a large bulldozer with a gun on it that took three of four shots before it actually hit anything! what works for warners
they should've called it "Terminator Dark Knight: The Batman Begins" given how Bale-heavy it is. When John Connor says “Whatever happens…this war end tonight” you can almost hear the execs in the distance yelling "no it doesn't". I'm just glad no-one said "talk to the hand". RE: T4
T2 opened with a future LA in 2029 so presumably the war still rages for at least another 11 years after T:Sal is set - hence the mooted 3-movie deal Bale has signed to. However - as with T3 when it turned out all they'd done was delay the war, and Bale ominously growling that it's not the future his mother told him about, this could conceivably be a temporal clean slate that gets the fan boys arguing time-travel rules for years to come. At least I HOPE so - but the presence of McG still i More

I actually liked T3, yeah the humour WAS crap, but loved the way that Judgement Day was unavoidable and that Skynet turned out to be a virus rather than supercomputer which is very 80's. And the last scenes with Connor in the bunker and the bombs dropping is genuinely a brilliant ending. This film is forced to do something different (in terms of the franchise) and that alone makes it ] i]interesting. For so many years I've wanted a Terminator Future War mnovie, minus Arnie, and it looks like I've got it. sp; I'm with you Tech.  A new direction is exactly what this franchise More

Wow!!
This looks awesome and I get more encouraged every time I see something T:Sal related. The fact Bale told McG to "Fuck off" until the script was better is great and Empire is right: That last shot IS one hell of a doozy!! Also love the T-Bikes!! More

RE: Great BUT One Query...
L: freddyboi13 Im loving the look of the film so far, Sam Worthington is undoubtly the new terminator- and what a choice to have him play it. Hopefully McG will be able to pull it altogether and make a great film Dont particularly like the T-600, it looks a little to backward, but im sure once most of the plastic flesh is blown away it'll look good. one query though le signed up to 3 movies, connor says in the trailer 'tonight, win or lose, the war ends' what does that mean for the o More

Still worried.
Well I'm not particularly impressed. It was lucky they nabbed Bale, because he looks to be the ONLY reason to watch this Transformers-esqe actioner. None of my fears abut McG went away seeing this trailer, and I'm amazed how many people on here (not to mention Empire itself) are so easily pleased. More

RE: Great BUT One Query...
It will sit comfortably into the Terminator universe judging by that trailer . As an 'actioner' it looks top notch popcorn fare , which is good enough for me . Hope he does'nt use the Batman voice too much though . More

McG!!! you might actually be good
GODDAMN!! Terminator Salvation looks amazing. Throughout the trilogy (and the tv show - The Sarah Connor Chronicles) they've alway said 'There a war coming' and 'The robots will take control' but apart from Arnie, Robert Patrick, and some swedish model (T3) all we've seen are a few flashes. Now, finally, we see that war. There's no-one better than Cristian Bale to lead us, he's took that succes he's had with Batman, mounting actual acting talent (emotions and all that) on top of the usual bloc More

RE: Don't need to see the film now!
L: stevos It looks like the whole film was compressed into that trailer. The main plot being (like the others), Christian Bales' character fighting Sam Worthingtons' machine (hidden at the beginning of course). And the rest is all filler. sp; And Lord of The Rings was just a Hobbit gets a ring and takes it to a mountain to destroy it...The other 9 hours was filler. More

More concerned with the performances!
There was no doubt in my mind that McG will achieve the look suited to the film, but what I'm concerned about is the performances of Bale and Worthington in particular and if McG can look past the gloss and truly draw out a kick ass performance out of Christian Bale and Sam Worthington. As in 'The Dark Knight' take away all the action sequences and you still get a terrific greek tragedy- That's what I'm hoping for! More

WHERE'S ARNIE?
I know he's getting on a bit - but I assume the Austrian Oak will put in an appearance at some point in this film. On the whole it all looks quite good - only drawback - we already know what's going to happen storywise thanks to T3 ................."I KILLED YOU!" More

Don't need to see the film now!
It looks like the whole film was compressed into that trailer. The main plot being (like the others), Christian Bales' character fighting Sam Worthingtons' machine (hidden at the beginning of course). And the rest is all filler. We also get Christian Bales Batman voice, and Bryce Dallas Howard being pregnant (again, not the best plot development). Sigh. I know it's called Terminator still, but can we have an original take on it please? It'll turn into an empty franchise; where the only thing tha More

I saw the 4 minutes of footage of this film at Movie con and wasn't impressed at all but this trailer has given me hope. Looks pretty dam cool. RE: New Terminator Salvation Trailer Online
Hmm. It does have that bleached out look that says, "Look at me; I'm super serial!". Whilst there is every chance it won't be the inspiration for birth control that T3 was, it really just looks like Mad Max meets Transformers. The original two films were so elegant in their structure, and so effective with their characterisation and Cameron's eye for a thrilling action sequence. We shall see... More

The beauty of the terminator movies was the fact it was they where chase movies, the first an unstoppable machine that won't quit until it kills sarah connor. It is scary as sh1t- our weapons etc dont harm it- the second used the same formula but upped the ante the third ? what third movie this trailer looks good but it looks nothing like the first two films- im hoping the change from chase movie to action movie will work- like aliens following aliens. I'm still not sure, after X3's trailer made that film look good, and what a total pile of crap that actually turned out to be. Why are there terminator bikes. I keep expecting Drew Barrymore, Lucy Liu and Cameron Diaz to appear dressed as German Beer Wenchs. Not totally sold, but maybe I can be persuaded. More

Re: Re: Bale's Batman voice
Sorry I was getting kinda pissed but realised after posting that I was actually reading those posts on the Gizmodo forum where I originally saw the japanese version of the trailer. Damn tab browsing gets so confusing sometimes. Regarding the whole supposed ending that is circulating the internet. The idea that the resistance needs John Conner so they use a terminator to "clone" him isn't really all that stupid. It's like Liam Neeson's character explained in Batman Begins a man can More
