Romanek To Direct Never Let Me Go

It's been a while since Mark Romanek's One Hour Photo in 2002, and since he walked away from The Wolf Man, it began to look like he'd continue to spend all his time on ads and music videos. But no longer: Romanek has reportedly signed on to direct the film adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro's Never Let Me Go, from a script by Alex Garland.

The story takes place in a world slightly but subtly different from our own, where 31 year-old Kathy recounts her past at the seemingly idyllic Hailsham School, at the same time that she reconnects with two friends from that time, Ruth and Tommy. It gradually becomes clear, however, that Hailsham was not all it initially appears, and that its secrets have implications from the lives of Kathy and her friends now.

Ishiguro also wrote The Remains of the Day, and this novel won similar levels of acclaim. Let's hope that Romanek can do it justice on the screen.
