The Wrestler Trailer Finally Here
Mickey Rourke's best performance ever

It's been a long time coming, but The Wrestler trailer is here at last, and it'll give you some indication why every critic and member of the public who has already seen the film has started buzzing about Oscars.

Darren Aronofsky's film sees Mickey Rourke play Randy "The Ram" Robinson, a wrestler who was big in the 1980s but now ekes out a living at small shows and conventions. A regular at a strip club, he has a quasi-friendship with dancer Cassidy (Marisa Tomei), who encourages him to seek out and try to win back his estranged daughter Stephanie (Evan Rachel Wood). And in the meantime, Randy's offered the chance of a lifetime, a rematch with his most iconic opponent, The Ayatollah.

The Wrestler is out here on January 16, which gives you six days to see it before Oscar nominations are announced on January 22 and everyone starts crowding in to see Rourke's performance (we're betting).

Big daddy
I think we forget how good Rourke is, this film looks set to remind us all. Like someone else who posted on here, I hope my local cinema shows this. First film of the new year to look forward. More

RE: Absolutely Fantastic
L: keaneye I can't remember ever seeing a trailer where I had immediately empathized with the main character, but the Wrestler has achieved that. This is not one of those typical oscar roles where the actor feels he must be frighteningly intense like he's really gunning for that award, yet it already looks like a thoroughly powerful and convincing performance in a film that seems to have a very easy pace to it. sp; Damn right . I also got the feeling like we were watching his life unfo More

Maybe gives actual wrestling more credibility
Might make people realise the fans love it for more than what is on the surface. More

I´m an old broken down piece of meat…
I don´t care if it´s only a trailer, and what the finished movie will be like. That trailer alone gave me more of the feeling I want movie´s movies to give me, surely more than most of the BS I had to endure the last couple of years. More

Looking forward to this.
If I lived in or around London would have definately seen this at the LFF, but won't have long to wait now till it gets here. Mickey Rourke seems to be right at home with this characer and it looks like Darren Aronofsky is back on form after the abysmally dull and up itself The Fountain. Still can't believe it was above the classic The Wicker Man in the top 500 films of all trime. More

Saw this at the LFF this year
It was the surprise film and it was just fantastic. I challenge any of you guys on here saying it looks cliched and sentimental not to be on the verge of man-tears by the end. Oh, and by the way Overmind, he doesn't dedicate the fight to his daughter at the end - I won't give away any spoilers, but let's just say it's dedicated for certain reasons to his adoring public. This is a wonderful film and I really hope Rourke - who did a fab Q&A at the end, btw - gets some recognition for it. G More

Jesus
This looks like it really could be a classic, just from the trailer, Rourke looks on the best form of his life. I agree that he'll probably be winning an Oscar in 2009 More

Gotta love Springstein. Put him in a trailer and your virtually guaranteed to bag an oscar. Just ask Cruise and Hanks! More

RE: The Wrestler Trailer FINALLY Here
Looks fantastic, gutted to have missed this at the LFF. Oscar nominations for Original Screenplay, Actor (Rourke) and Original Song (Springsteen) are dead-certs, but it may be too left-field and 'indie' to challenge for the heavyweight gongs. More

You so fine
Looks pretty good from the trailer although not altogether unfamiliar. Rourke looks googdand I've always been a fan of Marisa Tomei who has had an unjustifiably hard time being taken seriously since her oscar.. Seems like a strange one for aronosky to do but will definitely be queing up to give it a look. More

RE: The Wrestler Trailer Finally Here
This is the most clichefull trailer Ive ever seen. Mickey will surely gain a strong nomenie for the Oscar here. And prolly win too. This is no-go for me. Ill surely puke when he holds his spech at the end of the movie, about dedicating this match to his daughter and how much he loves her. (yes, prejudging is my middlename ---- edit: spellcheck. More

Well I can only say
It looks really emotional...certainly looks the deal...Mickey Rourke played a blinder as Marv in Sin City and looks like he has taken that into this movie and not only made his lead character look mean but shows that even the biggest and hardest men can still shed a tear over their children. Looks like he could be nominated for an Oscar...good luck Mickey. More
