More Details Emerge About Paul
Pegg and Frost's geek/alien comedy

12 November 2008  |  Written by Chris Hewitt

More details have emerged about Paul, the comedy vehicle for writers/stars Simon Pegg and Nick Frost – and it sounds like a doozy.

Previously, we knew this: Pegg and Frost were set to play two British geeks who travel across America with an unexpected guest, the titular Paul, and Greg Mottola was set to direct.

But now, it’s been announced that Paul, the film, is a sci-fi comedy and Paul, the character, is an alien trying to find his way home. He then enlists Pegg and Frost, who are on a road trip that takes in Comic-Con and Area 51, to help him.

Sounds like it could be a winner. Certainly, when we’ve spoken to Pegg in the past, he’s sounded extremely confident about the script, and really excited about the challenge of bringing Paul to life.

And if you’re thinking that this sounds like it could well have been the next Pegg/Frost/Edgar Wright genre-bending movie, well Wright will be involved, as exec producer, while Working Title and Universal will be signing the cheques.

Filming is set to start in mid-April in New Mexico. Needless to say, we’re keeping a close eye on this one.

RE: RE:
I have a feeling that if this film wasn't written and starring Frost/Pegg then that plot summary would make everyone groan. Sounds like a bad Rob Schneider movie to me but I do love both of them so I hope for the best. More

RE:
Although Pegg's films without Wright aren't nearly as good, I should point out that this is the only one that he's written (I'm not counting Run Fatboy Run as that was only a re-write). Since he co-wrote both the Wright films as well as the magnificent Spaced, I'm almost as excited for this as I am Scott Pilgrim. More

generally Pegg's films suffer without Wright. The title sucks too. still, could be fun. More

as much as i love Pegg
i'll generally watch anything he's in, but i've only liked the 2 films that Edgar wright directed, Big Nothing is a big pile of shit. More

Sounds good
I'm interested. Sounds perfect for Pest and Frogg and should be pretty funny. I hope they make the titular character tall, lanky and yellow so I can rip on my lofty pal of the same name who was jaundice a while ago. Don't worry he's fine now. Besides, he owes me 50 quid and deserves all the stick he gets More
