13 Is Lucky For Winstone And Liotta Duo join Jason Statham's crime remake Source: Variety
You’d think that a movie that’s already set to feature the likes of Jason Statham, Mickey Rourke and 50 Cent – a man who’s been shot nine times, don’t forget – couldn’t possibly get any tougher.
But today, Ray Winstone and Ray Liotta signed on to join the cast of 13, the English-language remake of French thriller 13 Tzameti. And by our reckoning, that makes it the most testosteroney cast since Wild Hogs.
The thriller, to be directed by Gela Babluani, who wrote and directed the original, will see Sam Riley play a young man who stumbles into a murky world where wealthy folk bet on a Russian Roulette-style competition.
The Stath will play one of the wealthy types exploiting the poor and needy (how could you, Jase?), while Rourke will play a convict sold into the game. 50 Cent is an employee assigned to escort Rourke to the game.
As for the two new additions, Winstone will play another competitor, who is freed from a mental institution in order to take part in the game, while Liotta is a cop on the trail of the game.
We expect lots of shouting. And shooting. And sweating. And lots of meaningful stares and growled one-liners. This movie is so manly that Empire grew a beard just writing this story.
Production begins in New York on November 20. More as we get it.
OMG as if i havent heard about this film yet it sounds like it could be really good i mean just look at the bloody cast, does any one roughly noe a realise date?? ... Read More
While I am lookiong forward to this remake....its sounds so gun-ho compared to the artsy slow-burning original, it actually might be great lol. ... Read More
the original was excellent, though a bit drawn out (read: European cinema stylee). The actual russian roulette scenes (with 13 in a circle, each with a gun with one bullet in it, spun and aimed at one's neighbour... then when the lights go out, bang bang) were so incredibly well done... glad the original director's coming back too. Good news all round. ... Read More
What a cast. This the new Watchmen for me. I am hyped about Watchmen, now the marketing and features have cooled till nearer it's release in Feb, I now have this to salavate over every true news item and feature.
There was talk of The Stath playing a big part in the talked about The Sweeney movie (maybe George Carter to Winstone's Jack Regan). If that doesn't happen then at least I'll have this to enjoy the cockney geezer gods. ... Read More
So not that I mind Chris Hewitt too much, but he is becoming something of a self appointed poster boy for Empire Magazine.
Not always a great choice when said, er, Comedic Journalist is a self proclaimed Statham fan (He forced the bloody awful DEATH RACE trailer upon us no less than 3 times at the movie-con)... and the guy used the word AWESOME for each and every single piece of footage shown. (A fact that was brought to his attention.. and he asked for a count in good humour).

Oh, for christ's sake. The original's an astounding and really underrated piece of work, and worked perfectly well without Jason Statham. ... Read More
Yeah this movie sounds like it could be decent. Liotta and Winston are too fine additions to any movie. Looking forward to it.
I do love how Crystal Skull bashing finds its way into comments about other movies. Haha. It really was that bad though.

Sounds cool. Big fan of Ray Winstone and he always makes films better just by being in them, although no-one could have saved Crystal Skull. Rourke's carear really is picking up again, and looking forward to seeing him in The Wrestler. And I'm really glad to see Sam Riley getting roles in some interesting films since his amazing turn in Control. This film could be brilliant. ... Read More
