Guy Pearce Is An Animal
Set to play a cop in Animal Kingdom

23 October 2008  |  Written by Emily Phillips  |  Source: Hollywood Reporter

Guy Pearce has signed on to star in an Australian crime drama called Animal Kingdom. In it, he will play a cop who helps a 17 year old who becomes involved in a crime family.

Pearce has been busy making hotly anticipated Cormac McCarthy adaptation The Road, as well as the comedy Bedtime Stories with Adam Sandler.

But he has found time for a return to Oz, with Animal Kingdom, and also a rumoured role in Last Man, about an Australian special forces unit in Vietnam.

Pearce will join fellow Aussies Ben Mendelson (The New World), Joel Edgerton (Smokin' Aces) and veteran actress Jackie Weaver (Picnic At Hanging Rock) for Animal Kingdom. It will be the first feature for director by David Michod and will be part of a group of five films funded by Screen Australia.

Pearce also has the rumour-mills spinning out of control with talk of a hook-up with Memento director Christopher Nolan. Fans are pitching him as a likely candidate for The Riddler in the next Batman outing.

RE:
You're so right on Nolan! I remember my friends were not so sure about him casting Heath Ledger two years ago. I told them : 'Always trust Nolan'. And they remembered the sentence after watching The Dark Knight. About Gosling, I'd love to see him as The Flash some day, though I've heard rumours on him playing The Green Lantern instead of David Boreanaz. All the same, though I'd love Guy Pearce as the Riddler, we have no idea who Nolan's gonna cast for the Riddler, but we can More

If there is a third Batman film and if there is The Riddler, I bet that Nolan's choice is a surprise. A lot of people in Bat-films have been cast against type: - Gary Oldman usually plays villains, Nolan cast him as the most honest person in the whole series. - Liam Neeson is usually a hero, Nolan cast him as the main baddie who wants to destroy Gotham. - Heath Ledger was known to be a teen idol and he became The Joker. - Cillian Murphy was a young hero-type, he became an insane psychiatrist More

RE: Animal kingdom?
You know you'd rather see Epcot: The Movie first. Also they've already made a Tower of Terror film. Look it up on IMDB, it's even got Kirsten Dunst in it. More

Guy Pearce would be a perfect Riddler! I hope he becomes The Riddler. And I would also suggest John Cusack for Spike Spiegel in Cowboy Bebop movie adaptation for 2011. He's a brilliant deep actor and kicks and shots better than Keanu Reeves (see Grosse Pointe Blank). Somebody should talk to the producer about this. More

David Tennant as the riddler?
Possibly the worst idea ever. More

that sounds pretty cool. But Pearce as the Riddler? YES! That is amazing, beaten only by the possibility of David Tennant playing the Riddler. More
