Helen And Anne Off To Wonderland
Hathaway and Bonham Carter join cast
Source: The Hollywood Reporter

Helen And Anne Off To Wonderland
Anne Hathaway and Helena Bonham Carter are a pair of old queens... Well, in Tim Burton's mind anyway, we couldn't possibly agree.

The noodle-headed master of gothic weirdness has cast Hathaway and his lovely missus Bonham Carter as the White Queen and the Red Queen respectively in his adaptation of Lewis Carroll's Alice In Wonderland for Disney.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Anne and Helena will be joining the likes of newcomer Mia Wasikowska (Alice) and Johnny Depp (The Mad Hatter) and the rumoured presence of Matt Lucas and Michael Sheen.

Hathaway's White Queen is "a benevolent monarch" who dispatches Alice to slay a creature known as the Bandersnatch after being banished by her decapitation-loving sister, the Red Queen (Carter). All of which sounds suitably Burton-esque and really rather Carrollian.

RE: Leave Tim alone!
L: Lemure Okay, so Tim uses the same actors/actresses repeatedly (and successfully) - go bitch about John Ford, Ridley Scott and Martin Scorcese and The Coens while you're at it. Secondly, what other director's last 3 pieces of work have been a big budget family blockbuster, a stop-motion animation and a gothic musical? He has more range than most and yet he never compromises on his vision. sp; yes but the point I am trying to make is that big budget family blockbuster and the got... Read More

RE: I knew it
I wouldn't call Batman or Sleepy Hollow remakes, but yes his remakes have been terrible (Apes and Chocolate Factory) but his adaptations are quite good (Big Fish, Sweeny Todd) And so what if it's nepotism, Bonham Carter was hardly mis-cast in her roles was she? He's the big mad-haired boss, let him do what he wants and we could just have another classic like Edward Scissorhands on our, er...hands. ... Read More

RE: I knew it
Burton does seem to have made his career with remakes (Batman, Sleepy Hollow, Chocolate Factory, Planet of the Apes and now this) but his best work comes from original ideas (Scissorhands) or properties that haven't already been adapted for film (Big Fish). I think it's time he did another film without Depp and his casting of Helena Bonham Carter again is obvious nepotism. While all three are clearly talented, it'd be nice to see them work with other people. This is the third time in recent yea... Read More

Yawn!
Tim Burton doing a gothic fantasy?! HOW UNUSUAL! Honestly, change the fucking record man. Also, any aspiring actress hoping to land a role in his films can pretty much forget it and go home if she's up against his missus ('But she auditions just the same as everyone else' - don't make me fucking laugh!) ... Read More
