New Spirit Photos Online A fresh look at Frank Miller's new flick Source: MovieWeb
MovieWeb has picked up a bunch of pictures from Frank Miller's The Spirit and on the evidence of these interesting images, there may still be - like the movie's main man - life in the old hero yet.
Bravely picking itself and dusting itself off in the wake of the poorly received footage shown at this year's Comic-Con, Miller's stand-alone directorial debut still looks to have plenty of fight left in it.
Adapted from the legendary comic strip, The Spirit tells the tale of a former rookie cop who returns mysteriously from the dead as The Spirit (Gabriel Macht) to take on his arch nemesis, The Octopus (Samuel L. Jackson), all the while facing a bevy of beautiful women who either want to seduce, love or kill our masked crusader.

Looks fun.
Surreal comic book, popcorn fun.
Granite jaws, guns and gals.
Gimme that film noire on an acid trip any day.
It's at least going for outside the box in a way I haven't seen before.

This one could go either way. Not many people out there know who "The Spirit " is - as opposed to - say - Batman, Superman or Spiderman. Perhaps that might work in the film's favour. Seem to remember there was an old TV pilot movie that was made some years ago featuring Sam "Gordon's alive! " Jones as the title character - but as far as I know - it never cau... Read More
I'm not too keen on the way this is looking. I mean, the cast look great (still not sure on Sam Jackson though) and the costumes look fine. But the comic was always revered for it's realistic depiction of 'the City' by Eisner. This looks like Miller is being very selfish in tainting the movie with his own sensibilities ignoring his so called idol's and it would be more aptly titled Frank Miller's (version of) The Spirit. Or, 'Sin City 2: The Spirit'.
This film should have been Noir meet... Read More

From the expressions on the actor's faces I reckon that they have been directed to play it in a style that isn't as naturalistic as people might be used to. I reckon this one will be so heavily stylized as to possibly turn people off. Real 'love it or hate it' territory. Hard to say which way one will lean until it's finished, that's for sure.

So it's basically a Superhero version of Speed Racer?
