David Spade To Make Divorced Guys
Reteaming with Joe Dirt writer Fred Wolf

Good news for fan of David Spade: your hero is making a triumphant return to movies!

Now, don’t get us wrong – we don’t mind the diminutive funnyman when he’s on TV in shows like Just Shoot Me and Larry Sanders.

But his movie career so far hasn’t just been a car wreck: it’s been a 20-vehicle pile-up on the M25 during rush hour, leaving dozens dead and wounded. Who, despite weeks of therapy, can forget the horror that was The Benchwarmers? How about 8 Heads In A Duffel Bag? Black Sheep? Tommy Boy? Joe Dirt? Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star?

That’s not a list of movies. That’s a list of possible violations of the Geneva Convention. The movie channel in Guantanamo Bay plays Spade movies round the clock, we hear*. This, frankly, is a man whose movie career peaked with his first film – and that was Police Academy 4: Citizens On Patrol.

And yet he’s back back back, with a film called Divorced Guys, about a group of, well, divorced guys who go on a road trip while they try to figure out what went wrong with their marriages. Along the way, hilarity ensues. Probably.

All good so far. But do you want the really good news? Spade’s reteaming with Fred Wolf on this.

Wolf, in case you’re not aware, is the guy who wrote Tommy Boy, Joe Dirt and Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star, before taking his raw comedy talent into directing, with the godawful Strange Wilderness and the marginally less godawful The House Bunny. He’s also written Mad Families, which is being developed as a vehicle for Spade and Chris Rock, who really should know better.

The story for Divorced Guys was co-written by Wolf, Spade and Kevin Farley, the brother of Chris Farley who, of course, was Spade’s comedy partner and best friend. Wind Dancer will stump up the readies.

* This is not true.

hmm, dickie roberts a horror yet it has the same amount of stars as Iron Man. Makes no sense, was Iron Man a horror in Empire's opinion? More
