King of the voiceovers passes away

In A World Without Don LaFontaine

Donald LaFontaine, the voiceover artist who became famous for recording nearly 5,000 movie trailers passed away on Monday, September 1.

The man with one of the most distinctive voices in Hollywood is survived by his wife Nita Whitaker and three children.

Here's the tribute from his official website:

"Over the past 25 years, LaFontaine cemented his position as the 'King of Voice-overs'. By conservative estimates, he has voiced hundreds of thousands of television and radio spots. At last count, he has worked on nearly 5,000 films. Based on contracts signed, he has the distinction of being perhaps the single busiest actor in the history of the Screen Actors Guild.

Check out the great man in action below and let's all join together in mourning his passing.

Nooo, nooooo, nooooooooo!!!  The constant narration of my life in my head has his voice... who's it going to be now, Zach freakin' Braff??? Well, seeing as no-one could possibly emulate the great man, the studios should just go in completely the opposite direction and get Joe Pasquale or Yeardley Smith to do all of their voiceovers from now on. ... Read More
