Is this going to be a comedy or a disaster type movie? Surely Ritchie cannot be serious with his version, it'll be like car crash television. More

Gary Oldman should be directed to one role only next and that is of Alan Quatermain in a movie of King Solomon's Mines. He'd be perfect as the character after seeing him as Gordon in BB/TDK. More

Exactly my point, the recent more realistic Grant would be perfect, look at Everett, most roles in which he plays an englishman, he is always foppish, yet when he was Holmes, he was moody, slightly cold and detached from the world. Thats what I want. More

s thought Hugh Grant would of made an interesting Holmes! mm, possibly, although hopefully Evil Hugh Grant ala About a Boy and Bridget Jones rather than bumbling-appeals-to-the-American-Market-Richard-Curtis- directed Hugh Grant.
Would be interesting what kind of performance Guy Ritchie could coax out of him.
Although, I just hope the Sherlock Holmes action is as good as this:

Why does everybody think Watson should be a fat bumbling idiot there for comic relief. Seriously we need an edgier Watson, to go along with the "Kick Ass" Holmes they are portraying him as. More

I love Downey Jr an unhealthy amount, but I just can't see him as Holmes, Ralph Fiennes would've been spot on I reckon. As for Watson, I'd really love to see David Mitchell playing him (as he did in a sketch for That Mitchell and Webb Look). More

Also if we are talking about British actors playing Holmes, I always thought Hugh Grant would of made an interesting Holmes! Well he'd be better than Richard Roxburgh. More

Gary Oldman would've made a good British Holmes. Watson needs to be someone warm to combat Holmes' iciness. Depends what tone Ritchie's taking though- a comedic edge, like his output so far, or serious. More

| RE: Please stop |
Whilst I am a huge Downey Jr fan, I must admit that I'm alittle disappointed that we could find a british actor to portray Holmes, but with a Watson, maybe they'll go down a route of giving Watson a bit of an edge as they did in the two BBC dramas, when Ian Hart was Watson. He wasn't as portrayed as some dumb, bumbling ididot as some films have made him out to be, and he always resented it when Holmes would treat as thick. Just maybe get a better actor, statham thankfully is far More

Is the sidekick really necessary? Given Watson's main role seems to be to act as narrator and as channel for Holmes to explain to the viewer how he works through the deduction process, the film can probably carry itself without him.
Although if it has to be anyone, make it Ian Kirkby More
