| RE: 2nd film must be about Aragorn |
You know your facts. I hope they don't make a film based on the Silmarillion; it'd be far too long and have too many events in it.
They should adapt...erm...is it "The Book of Lost Tales"? Something like that. They'd make good films.

| RE: Why NOT 2 films??? |
I really can’t see why anyone is all that worried about the 2nd film. It’s another Jackson and co journey into Middle Earth! I don’t think those of us who enjoyed the last three are in the minority by any stretch of the imagination. I have complete faith that they will pull this off and while people have complained about certain major revisions considered for the first films (Arwen at Helms Deep, Sauron fight in ROTK etc) Jackson never included them, realising that it was never intend More

The BBC has it wrong. The adaptation of the Hobbit has always been one movie. What they have missed out with their sloppy research is that the 2nd film will be an original story that will fill the time frame and take us up to the opening of TLOTR

why is everyone worried about the 2nd film, surely the writers of the LOTR will deliver 2 top quality films, the Hobbit needs to be like the LOTR(both film and Book) and not like the child-like book(trolls called Bert &Tom)and should include the white council and lothlorien elves driving Sauron from Dol Guldur, The 2nd film will concentrate on Aragorn, his wanderings with gandalf, early romance with Arwen fighting for Thengel of Rohan and Ecthelion of Gondor and his victory over the corsairs More

Christ! You think this is weak check out the coverage on the BBC News website. Oh and the Hobbit will be split in two, so with the companion film that makes another trilogy right! C’mon world service, shocking journalism!!! More

No problem with The Hobbit, it would always have been the easiest Tolken book to adapt – with its fairly simple, linier story arc. And Del Toro is an excellent directorial choice.
But why-oh-why are they making TWO movies? And just making one completely up, at that.
Its bound to be about Gandelf and his taking out of Sauron in Mirkwood (cool enough idea), but if they have the cheek to shoehorn Bilbo into that I'll spew.
And Ian Holm HAS to play Bilbo. The whole point is that he More

I'm looking forward to this - I loved the trilogy and Del Toro is a visionary genius. What worries me is the thought of Jackson & Boyens penning a sequel. They were fantastic at bringing Tolkien's world to life, but they had strange moments of insanity when trying to dabble with the story.
Remember how they wanted Arwen to fight at Helms Deep? Even worse, they wanted Aragorn to duel it out with Sauron in a big bout of fisticuffs outside the black gate. They changed this at the end to him More

Scripts finished by mid-2009 to shoot in Autumn 2009?? That doesn't leave a lot of time for pre-production....
