Favreau Will Direct Iron Man 2
'Yay,' said the internet

11 July 2008  |  Written by Olly Richards  |  Source: Deadline Hollywood

For reasons that make no sense to anybody, Jon Favreau was not signed up to direct Iron Man 2 the instant it opened, to great critical and financial success. That situation has now been rectified, according to Nikki Finke of Deadline Hollywood Daily.

Finke says that Favreau has been offered a "much richer" deal than he received on the first film, but she's not particularly complimentary of the director. You can read the full article here.

This news probably won't surprise anyone, since Favreau did a bang up job for fans and critics. Getting him back to direct a sequel is a no-brainer. The question now is, when will the film go before cameras? It's already got a release date April 30, 2010. But with today's news that Robert Downey Jr will star as Sherlock Holmes for Guy Ritchie, that really reduces the window for actually getting the film made. We'd hate to see this rushed and fail to live up to the potential that the first showed.

RE: Favreau Will Direct Iron Man 2
I can't believe he wasn't signed on straight away. it was pretty obvious he just wanted and deserved some more money. More

Yeah, I'm psyched too.  I think I would like him to direct Avengers as well.  If not him (for Avengers), I wonder who would be a suitable fit... More

RE: Yay!...
I can't believe there was any delay to sign him on anyway. Very naive of Marvel to assume he wouldn't want more money and hell he probably deserves it, it was a pretty good film and made plenty of $ More

L: matthewforan Starting the day off with this news is just as good as waking up next to Natalie Portman. Bring on IM2. mmm. I don't think it's quite ] good, but then what is? All I'm saying is if I had the option between seeing Jon Favreau direct Iron Man 2 or waking up next to Natalie Portman I'd let Jon take a backseat. More

"For reasons that make no sense to anybody, Jon Favreau was not signed up to direct Iron Man 2 the instant it opened." Hmm, I guess attaching a director to a film BEFORE it opens is the way studios are going these days :-) More

RE: Yay!...
Good job Marvel. They should have offered it him straight away though. What a bitch that Finke woman is calling him an asshole, I'm glad Favreau let it be known he wanted to do it as he obviously loves the material he's working with and did such a good job with the first one he should have been a shoe in for IM2.  Hope they do Mandarin too.  Bring it on.   More

Maybe that extra money will convince him to make a whole good movie instead of the 75% of one he managed last time round. More
