Tambor: Arrested Development Movie Is On
Updated: Woah there Jeffrey

01 July 2008  |  Written by Olly Richards  |  Source: EW

A movie follow-up to the brilliant TV comedy Arrested Development has been discussed for a very long time and every time we speak to someone involved in the show we always ask them what's happening with it. But usually the answer you get from the cast is that it sounds like a great idea but they know nothing about it. Now, we have something more hopeful from Jeffrey Tambor.

Speaking to EW, Tambor said, "After months of speculation, I think we have finally figured out for sure that we are indeed doing an Arrested Development movie. I am very excited about that. I love that cast and crew and I felt like we had more to say."

Does that mean it's happening soon, or just that it's happening at some point? And does it mean all the actors are in on the discussions? We don't know for sure, but when we recently spoke to David Cross (who played Tobias on the show), he said he'd still heard nothing definitive. Let's hope Tambor's statement is a sign of faster development ahead.

If you've never seen Arrested Development we envy you, because you have greatness ahead. The Mitchell Hurwitz creation, which ran for three seasons between 2003 and 2006, follows the mishaps of the Bluth family who are supposed to give up their extravagant life when the family patriarch (Tambor) is sent to jail for fraud. Being idiots, they find it hard to adjust and won't listen to the advice of sensible son Michael (Jason Bateman). Think of something along the lines of a live-action Simpsons and you're basically there in terms of humour. If you don't drop whatever you're doing and go and buy it on DVD right now, well, then we can only assume that you don't like yourself. But you should like yourself, you're nice.

UPDATE: EW has now updated their story saying there is no script or greenlight yet in place.

Never seen the show.   I thought this was about a second tier Star Wars character getting a spin off. More

RE: Not with it
L: kinge247 Sorry never liked arrested development, seinfeld or that other one with the bald fella that looks like the eagle out of the muppets.  Just don't get american TV humor (as they would spell it).  I've tried many times to watch this and each time I have been left dissapointed.  Now if Ben Stiller did another TV series I'd be interested. en stiller is in several episodes of both arrested development and curb your enthusiasm ("that other one with the bald fella that looks like More

Could this work...? I love Arrested Development, but can it both prove itself worthy of the big screen AND maintain its fast-paced dry humour for an hour and a half? Not impossible considering how easy it is to watch consecutive episodes, but I hope they give it the time it needs to get it up to the stratospheric standard its audience has come to expect. More

One has to hope they make it soon
Re-watching the seasons again and again is always immaculate, however, there's never enough, it might be greedy, but perfect TV rarely comes around. More
