300 Sequel On The Way
Miller to write; Snyder to direct?

Are you ready for 300, Part II? (Shouldn’t that be 302?)

It would seem that Frank Miller and Zack Snyder are, for it’s been confirmed that Miller, on whose graphic novel last year’s smash hit was based, is to write a story set in the same universe.

The aim is to then adapt that new graphic novel into another 300 movie, with Snyder waiting until he sees Miller’s finished effort before he decides whether or not to direct.

At the moment, it’s not known if the project will be a prequel or a sequel to the visually stunning epic about the Battle of Thermypolae, which was filmed entirely against greenscreen, turned Gerard Butler into a star and secured Snyder his current gig directing Watchmen.

Turning it into a sequel is slightly tricky, given that virtually everybody died in 300, while prequels are – almost by their nature – devoid of narrative tension. But it’s not as if Spartan history is devoid of incident for Miller to explore, so we’re sure he’ll come up with a cracking yarn. And, on a selfish note, it’s always good to see Miller back in the world of comics – clearly, despite his stint directing the upcoming movie version of The Spirit, he hasn’t turned his back just yet on the medium that made him.

The new 300 movie will, like the first one, be produced by Legendary Pictures for Warner Bros. Legendary apparently considers the project to be a major priority, as does Empire’s Helen O’Hara, who is still reeling from the six-pack festival that was the original.

And hey, readers, there’s another upside to this: now they can make a sequel to Meet The Spartans! Joy unconfined!

And to all the naysayers: this is a comic book movie, fuck's sake, nothing more, nothing less. With the money the first one made they can do wild with this one. If you've read much Frank Miller (Hard Boiled..... holy shit that'd be a movie and a half) you know he's not going to write a cheap-ass sequel for the sake of it. --- More

Bigger soundstages would be nice. Sometimes 300 felt so fake because of the small depth, it just gave you a studio feeling instead of a real environment. Apart from that, I really don't know what they could do for a sequel. There are enough stories in Greek history, but everything with an army would instantly feel like a copy from 300. Maybe a Frank Miller-style remake of the Hercules story? Or a godlike Ares versus Hephaestus film? Could be cool. More

Don't really know how they are going to bring anything new to the 300, I liked 300 and I'm a fan of Miller's but this could be a mistake. Focus on getting us Sin City 2 and 3 please Mr. Miller. More

It's not just because I'm not exactly the biggest fan of 300 that I find this idea awkward. Sounds a bit like Titanic II - Deep As An Ocean or Gladiator: The Ultimate Fight Begins to me. More

Well I'm not gonna hold my breath about this yet. It sounds like cashing in to me. But I had to quote you on this "And, on a selfish note, it’s always good to see Miller back in the world of comics – clearly, despite his stint directing the upcoming movie version of The Spirit, he hasn’t turned his back just yet on the medium that made him." Have you READ All Star Batman and Robin? Franks turned his back on comics alright! More

Please Let It Be A Prequel!
I couldn't believe when I found out this one. 300 was bar far the best comic book film since Sin City, it got a lot of money and made the leading man a star. I hope it would be a prequel so that there could be a another battle before the whole Persian group arrives. I also hope that Zack and the gang are back for it, wouldn't be right if they had other people playing Leonidas. I would bring on war if they replace Gerry, you hearing me?! More

No, not the infinitely better 80s handle for 'Snicklers' bars, or even the race once sponsored by Mars bars. The battle of Marathon is what first springs to mind when they suggest a sequel for 300. It was as significant, historically, as the battle at the Hot Gates, and contains as many opportunities in the narrative for uber-heroics and six-pack steriodal action. Go read a Tom Holland book for more... More

After Gladiator struck box office gold, every studio went nuts for sword n sandals pics, some worked,others....not so much, with the success of 300 the trend seems to be back with a vengence. I think that the visual style of 300 was a unique selling point for that film and it might be difficult to return to that concept again unless the script is amazing. More

What excellent news. 300 was amazing, Frank Miller is God and Snyder better come back and direct or else. Really hope he does a good job with Watchmen as his eye for visual flair shone brightly with 300. Glad that Miller is remainig active in the comic world as his are some of the best, anyone read his version of Robocop2? It should have been made instead of the tat we got.  Hope Helen O'Hara can keep herself sane until then. More
