Lionsgate Says Yes To Korean Wedding Com
From screenwriter Jason Filardi
Source: The Hollywood Reporter

Lionsgate has said ‘we do’ to a comedy pitch from screenwriter Jason Filardi, which will explore the comedic potential of a Korean wedding.

The as-yet untitled film will be based on the experiences of Filardi’s cousin, Iain McConnell, with whom Filardi is writing the screenplay.

McConnell married into a Korean family after falling in love with a Korean girl while teaching English as a second language. The film plays on these experiences, with the groom and his family having to travel to Korea to meet the bride’s family, before taking part in a traditional Korean wedding to follow.

So it’s Meet The Parents with an Oriental twist, and a culture-clash comedy, to boot. We’re not hugely optimistic about this one, it has to be said (especially given Filardi’s track record – he wrote Bringing Down The House), but it’s certainly noteworthy in that the movie will be shot on location in Korea. Otherwise, we're finding excitement hard to come by. What do you think, readers?
