Exclusive: Duhamel Talks Transformers 2
Hints at an interesting plot development

Never underestimate Empire’s superhuman ability to turn a couple of quotes into a full-blown, several paragraphs (and more!), news story. Because, dear readers, even the most seemingly insignificant quotes can shed new light on upcoming films – and frankly, it would be remiss of us not to report such things.

Take this Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen story, for example. We had the good fortune to bump into Josh Duhamel (thoroughly nice guy, by the way; looks great in a tux) on the set of When In Rome last week, and took the opportunity to ask him about the currently-shooting Michael Bay mega-sequel, in which he returns as heroic soldier, Captain William Lennox.

And, although he couldn’t say much about the film, lest Bay deploy some Decepticon goons to kick him right in the Energon Cubes, he did let slip the following exciting tidbit when Empire asked him what was different this time round for Lennox.

“I guess who he’s working with is probably the biggest change,” said Duhamel, before adding once more, presumably for emphasis. “Who he’s working with.”

And then he was gone. But Duhamel’s cryptic clue would certainly seem to add credence to recent rumours that the second Transformers movie will, as with X-Men 2 (another movie produced by Transformers’ Tom De Santo), see the forces of good and evil team up to fight another, more terrifying foe.

The title of the movie already strongly hints at the presence of The Fallen, an incredibly powerful robot – one of the thirteen original Transformers – hellbent on vengeance. Could he be so powerful, so mean, and so nasty that his presence forces the Autobots and the Decepticons to set aside their differences and work together?

Sounds like it. Of course, next time we bump into Duhamel, we’ll ask him. We’re sure he’ll spill all the beans then…

Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen is out next year.

Its got to be the one and only unicron, he is the only transformer powerful enough for the decepticons and autobots to put aside their differences and work together, however this reminds me of x men 2 and they got that wrong, so im a littile wary of this idea More

RE: 80's movie coming alive?!
L: Funk Sounds to me like they are 'remaking' the 80's movie! Makes sence in how they would bring back Megatron! Unicron might look a bit goofey but who knows these days! There are 10 robots on each side so should be good! Just no 80music....too much! sp; I pray this isn’t a remake of the 80’s movie, which was so much better than the mess that was the “real-life” transformers movie. Valid point on the 80’s music though, it was fun at the time but best left there. More

A little off topic
Personally I feel the next Call of Duty should be 'Soap' McTavish...teamed with Transformers. More

RE: 80's movie coming alive?!
I agree the goodguys working with the badguys thing has already been done with x men 2 and that did not work well at all. I want to see the autobots have some kind of base that they had in the comics and the dinobots yeah. Still wondering how jazz is back in it. More

L: Terribly_Mauled Plus all the American soliders are working with the SAS in this one... yay for Blighty! ome one has to teach how to do it properly he "enemy greater than us" has been done a hundred times, Blade 2 et al. The problem is it'll just be some big hulking colossus that'll sweep in for the second and third act then bugger off. If they can add such a behemoth to the film mythos and make the character more prevalent then yes. Perhaps a story can involve Starscream re-awak More

Personally i dont think unicron should be involved. destroyer of planets. is that not a bit too fantastic four: rise of the silver surfer which sucked big time. More

Hmm, this sounds interesting. Josh Duhamel was hot in the first one and I was overjoyed when I found out that he will return in the second one. Hopefully, what he slipped to Empire, is true and the plot is a good idea from you guys. I got my fingers crossed that you meet him again and find out! More

Its' too soon for a Marvel team up between Autos and Decepto's, should be kept for a 3rd or possibly 4th film. More

If they bring in The Fallen from the comics, then that's a relatively obscure bit of TF-lore to reference in such a big way (there are far bigger and better-remembered stories to "adapt" first); so I'd be a bit surprised if that's what they were doing, but hey, if that's the case more power to them. I'm sure it'll be a dumb, entertaining, but over-edited effects-fest like the first one. More

The new Transformers movie could definately benefit from some plot, the first one was all spectacle, and I can enjoy spectacle, but like a Big-Mac, it's quickly forgotten. BTW doe anyone else think that shot of Duhamel makes him look alot like Timothy Olyphant? More

No idea what the guy before me said but I definetly enjoyed Transformers and I am looking forward to this. I hope they don't do the whole Xmen thing with good and bad fighting together as that would ruin it for me. More

I think Duhamel could mean Lennox is probably under the command of Optimus and Ironhide, rather than giving out orders himself.Personally I reckon Fallen is an in-joke to fans, and storywise it refers to Megatron (the "fallen", as Optimus calls him "brother" which means he was once good, ala Lucifer).
