Universal Buys The Knights Templar
Knights versus vampires? We're there!

If you’re anything like Empire, then everything you know about the Knights Templar, you’ll have learned from movies like Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade, The Da Vinci Code and National Treasure. So we know that they were a group of Knights who fought in the Crusades, and that they: protected the Holy Grail; helped cover up the fact that Jesus Christ HAD A FAMILY; and did whatever it was that they did in National Treasure.

But did you know that they also FOUGHT A VAMPIRE ARMY, who were hellbent on destroying the Holy Grail?!?!

Well, of course they didn’t, but that’s the ridiculous and, it has to be said, ridiculously cool premise behind a spec script called The Knights Templar that’s just been picked up by Universal. (Although we’d call it Knights Of The Living Dead.)

The project was written by Adam Torchia and Justin Stanley, based on an idea by Ian Rothkerch, a friend of Stanley’s who sadly passed away several years ago. The duo began working on the script, and now it’s been picked up, with Wanted and Nightwatch director Timur Bekmambetov to produce, along with Marc Platt. So don’t be totally surprised if Bekmambetov – who has history with vampires on the big screen – ends up directing, too.

And hopefully this will go into production soon. Until this day, Empire didn’t know that the one thing stopping our lives from being complete was seeing knights kick the crap out of vampires – but now that we know that it is, frankly this can’t come soon enough.

I like the sound of this. Well, so long as it's a period piece, not a modern-day version with Neo-Templars. That would suck. More

What the...?
I'm sorry that Empire's getting so excited about this. I really am. Yeah, so it all sunds kind of cool when you first read it but just stop and think will you??? What will happen on screen? Knight rides across mist shrouded plain (somewhere in France, written across foot of screen) suddenly, there's a flash of something dark and growly to his left. 'Gad zooks! What devil of the pit is this?' The before you can say 'Niii!' and demand te little blighter comes back cuz, really, it's only a f More

Too Radical
Man im on a cynical streak today but this sounds too easy for me. Why not make a epic movie about a fantastic piece of English lore. I totally agree with the comments below, so much potential for cinematic brilliance but we all know it will end up a camp vamp flick........temps rock thou so will prob still see it hehe ;-) More

Great
I'm looking forward to seeing this, but please GOD go light on the CGI. CGI these types of films should be an aid to the stunts rather than a full blown effect like 'I Am Legend', which could have been so more convincing with real actors. More

Templar?
Not Kinghts of The Living Dead! Please! It sounds like a fantastic script and it is great to imagine: the epic battle scenes, sprawling (probably New Zealand) landscape and big swords all make for a good film. Lord of the Rings, Kingdom Of Heaven - It's a winning formula! Vampires Vs Knights is a new idea, and I think it will work. There must be a main character, and I am willing to bet that the role will go to James McAvoy, the scottish actor who is set for stardom following The Last King of More

Knights of the Living Dead were already done by Armando Di Ossario and his '70s Spanish zombie series The Blind Dead, the loony bikini-babes-and-blood splatter pics that featured the Kinghts Templar as necromancers gifted eternal life by supping the gushing blood from virgins' pert breasts. The movies are even more fun than they sound More

Don't forget Carnivale...
It's hard to figure out exactly what the Templars actually had to do with the story there, but they seemed to be pretty kick-ass, so that's an untarnished record thus far. This sounds damn good, considering how bat-shit insane the -Watch films were, I'll be loooking forward to it. More

..
Please don`t let Bekmambetov direct this. Night Watch was an interesting curio, Day watch was laboured, and Wanted looks to be a total mess. The whole "hyper-kinetic" thing he`s pushing is, frankly, distracting from the stories he`s trying to tell. My money for the right person to direct this would have to be on someone who would take this seriously, who would truly inhabit the period first, an introduce the beasties later. Someone like Michael Mann, having recently re-watched Last More
