Iron Man 2 In 2010
Studio already preparing for a sequel

02 May 2008  |  Written by Olly Richards  |  Source: Entertainment Tonight

submit to reddit

Now, this all depends on Iron Man being a success at the box office, but a sequel could be coming in 2010. Since we can see absolutely no reason why this very enjoyable movie would fail to make a hefty profit, we should all start marking some space in our diaries for two years from now.

Brad Grey, Big Chief Superman of Paramount, told US showbiz series Entertainment Tonight that if all goes as hoped with the first movie, that a second will come out in the same week in 2010.

The news of a sequel is extremely welcome. Iron Man is a great build to what should be an amazing sequel, with a well-drawn cast of characters established and potential for some massive action. Our only ask is that they make sure to have a good story in place. It would be an enormous shame to have done such great ground work on the opening of the franchise to then slip-up on the second by rushing it into production. But we have faith in everyone involved in Iron Man, since they all seem to have genuine love for and belief in Ol' Metal Head.

L: Overmind L: rayhiggins Saw a preview yesterday and found it very enjoyable. Hell, I was surrounded by gobby 12 year old boys trying to out-geek each other and they managed to shut up for the entire film. It takes a good film to hold everyone's attention like that for 2 hours. I look forward to the sequel and, hopefully, hine or the Mandarinuote] Though they were hinted this might not be the sequel. RE: Genuinely the best comic movie made
L: Manhatten As a long time fan of Ol'Shellhead, this movie did not disappoint. Though I didn't feel the film was rushed after the introduction of the Mark III I did feel it was the case with Tony's Relationship with Pepper. I found it was more political based than your average superhero movie, something I hope to see more of in the Avengers movie, it was pretty much what I expected it to be and then some what with the Samuel L. Jackson's brief cameo as Nick Fury at the end of the credits. More

RE: Genuinely the best comic movie made
If they choose to have Terrence Howard play War Machine in the sequel. How about using the Busta Rhymes song "This Means War" which samples "Iron Man" by Black Sabbath.   youtube.com/watch?v=73Kcqwo2jrwp; keep the beat and the "This means WAR!!!" but cut out the rest of the lyrics. Could work pretty well? More

This is good news, but...
This is good news, but I wonder if the weakness of the film's second half (i.e. after he gets his final Mark III suit) will be a reflection of things to come in an 'Iron Man' sequel. More

I saw the film today and really enjoyed it, wasn't the best film but enjoyable none the less. A sequel would be great as it would build on the last film. More

L: BikerScout Saw the movie last night along with that new Indy trailer. Couldn't blieve I was seeing a trailer that I hadn't alreadycaught online. Loved the movie. The casting Downey Jr. was a master stroke and Jeff Bridges was wonderful too. I didn't stay for the post-credits extra scene!... ote]   Why do they always do that? Adding aftercreditsschenes. Don't Plan Anything.
If I was these people, I wouldn't plan any sequels until the first is good and makes money. We all saw what happened with Golden Compass, they thought that people would swarm in as it looked block-buster material but it flopped in America and mostly a lot of people are up in arms about it. But then again, Iron Man looks damn good and there hasn't been any negative material against it. So, we shall see what happens. More

Who in their right mind's going to climb into that thing sober?
This is probably the first time I've left a cinema so hyped up on the promise of a sequel. Favreau and co. sound like they've been planning sequels with alcoholism and War Machine and the Mandarin since they started making the first one, and it ended with the perfect set up for a whole bunch of stories to use. And I, for one, am more than happy to watch Robert Downey Jr. for several more hours. Bring it the fuck on! (...and put that title quote in it. Please?) More

Indiana Jones Full Trailer with Iron Man
Went to see Iron Man last night (enjoyed it, by the way) but was wondering whether anyone else got the full Indiana Jones trailer? Cos' we did. I would have thought something like this would have been all over the net but I can't find any mention of anyone else seeing the trailer yet. Maybe it was just us. If anyone's interested can give you a break down - from what I can remember. More

It's a WELCOME non-surprise
Iron Man is terrific, and whilst it is all set-up with very little pay-off (the Iron Monger stuff is, arguably, rushed through) it's a brilliant origin story. The stuff the production team have been saying about tackling Stark's alcoholism or bringing in the Mandarin suggests they know what they wanna do in a sequel. More
