Judge And Bateman Board Extract
Office Space director lines up new film

28 April 2008  |  Written by Olly Richards  |  Source: Variety

Mike Judge has not had an awful lot of luck of the movie front. Office Space is passionately beloved by its fans, but it's still very much a cult hit, at least in the UK where most people have never heard of it. And his sophomore film, Idiocracy, was the victim of completely bungled distribution and ultimately seen by three people and a goldfish. So, we're hoping he has more good fortune with Extract, particular since he's signed one of our favourite people to star.

Judge has recruited Jason Bateman to play the lead in a film that Variety describes as being about "what it's like to be the boss when everything seems to be shifting around you". Damned if we know what that means, but then Office Space's plot doesn't sound like a whole lot of anything if you boil it down to a sentence: 'A man really doesn't like his job and another is very possessive of his stapler'.

Drop everything, and go rent Idiocracy. That is an instant cult classic, brillant satire on the devoltion of all things Americana. You guys over there would love it (Hey I read what you guys think about us in the Guardian)... Office Space brillant. The dude made Beavis and Butthead, nuff said. Loved Bateman in Arrested Development, the alchemy between him and Judge is sure to be comedic gold. But then again maybe it's an American thang. More

"Sounds shit"
Ladies and Gentlemen - "Sounds shit.". Look forward to seeing that piece of journalistic gold on the posters. But Olly has a point - it does sound pretty boring, but so did Office Space. So does Beavis and Butthead (Two kids laugh at music videos). Give it a chance. More
