Friday The 13th Remake Has A Lead
And it's...

03 April 2008  |  Written by Chris Hewitt  |  Source: Variety

Marcus Nispel’s Friday The 13th remake – which starts shooting on April 21 – has found its damsel in distress.

Amanda Righetti – a 24 year-old actress who’s been seen in a run of The O.C. episodes – is in final negotiations to play the lead in the movie, which will be filmed in Austin, Texas.

She joins the already-cast Jared Padalecki and Derek Mears, who will play the film’s iconic slasher, Jason Voorhees.

We don’t know much about Righetti, frankly, but first glance shows that she’s a looker, which might indicate that this Friday The 13th will be a glossier proposition than the original, whose lead, Adrienne King, was commendably ordinary.

King, of course, spent the last 20-30 minutes of that movie running around in a state of sheer terror after each of her Camp Crystal Lake counsellor friends were bumped off one by one, so we’ll be intrigued to see if this Friday follows the same pattern. Or will it be more of an ensemble piece?

Only time will tell. The movie is currently lined up for release on February 13, 2009. Surely we don’t need to say, ‘see what they did there?’

RE: JASON VOORHEES LOVES YOU EMPIRE!!!
Yeah kuddos to Empire. I think they know the series is dumm fun but realize it has a got a large following and it would be great to get a legit Friday movie that ya could call scary and packed with tension etc. Be great to have them hit this out the ball park. More

JASON VOORHEES LOVES YOU EMPIRE!!!
Dearest empire i just want to thank you so much for following the development of this movie so closely. I'm a mature gent of forty who loves movies from all genres but the "friday" movies have a special place in my heart ...yes they are dumb and the sequels got worse and worse until "freddy vs jason" but i can't help but think that in the right hands (and i think it just might be in them) this could be a great fun scary movie for a new generation and a cool nostalgia trip fo More

RE: Friday The 13th Remake Has A Lead
Enough with the fucking re-makes already.. Sequels is what we want man.. Jason X was cool. Freddy v Jason, cool. RE-makes just don't work. I have every Friday movie, every Nightmare, every Halloween, every Texas Chainsaw, every Chucky.. I want to see what happened next with these characters, not what happened to begin with, in another way. NO MORE RE-MAKES.... I rest my case.. More

RE: Friday The 13th Remake Has A Lead
es true! If I was makeing this i'd have kept the serious tone they're going for. It is meant to be v.dark and unlike the others. They are meant to be going for intensity like Hills Have Eyes (06).  Yet I'd have had to throw Feldman in there. Just when he's bearing down on the OC babe a voice from the past rings out and good old Tommy Jarvis is walking out of the mist. With a  hatchet! FIGHT! More

RE: Friday The 13th Remake Has A Lead
I reckon it will do the job like the TCM remake, be a solid genre film. Only Dunes do seem to be putting effort into this so I holding out that this may be the first LEGIT well made Friday film. Even the casting is pretty stellar for Friday picture. Haha, Supernatural and OC residents doing battle with Vorhees. More

L: The REAL Bozz Sorry bud when I read your msg I took it to mean a direct continuation of 3, as in like the day after or sommat. hat was my fault, I didn't put my point across properly, mate. I meant instead of starting from scratch, they are starting, character-wise, from 3 as in it will be Jason and he will have his mask. No harm done More

Sorry bud when I read your msg I took it to mean a direct continuation of 3, as in like the day after or sommat. Never meant to offend. If anyone is really intrested in the direction of the new film I've got ton's of info. I could go either way though, I mean Nispel will make it look good, but I while I liked FvJ I never loved it and it's got the same writers. However the duo did say their original script for FvJ was a straight horror but Ronny Yu made changes. More

I'm sorry, but who said it /i] set in present day? If they are putting a new slant on it, it may well be worth a look rather than it being a straight remake. More

RE: Friday The 13th Remake Has A Lead
Er no they arn't. The film takes place present day, yeah it's a reboot and will focus on the murders of 123 and 4 but like I said it's about a guy investigating the murders who I assume the fella from Supernatural will be playing. The girl who just got cast is a councilor. More

L: The REAL Bozz Friday aint a remake. Do people just read what they want to or what? ote] Well, I did say further up that they were re-starting the series from Part 3 rather than part 1, which is essentially what they are doing (for those who don't know, Jason didn't get his famous hockey mask till the third film). RE: Friday The 13th Remake Has A Lead
This film is NOT a remake. It's a new start but recognizes that the other films happened. The writers and producers have said in numerous interviews the film won't be an origin story, Jason is killing at the very start of this film. The character this actress plays is called Whitney. The story is meant to concenrn a documentary crew investigating the Jason myth, although teen councilours will feature.....AND it's not going to be filmed in a docu style before everyone starts bloody screami More

RE: Friday The 13th Remake Has A Lead
The first one isn't all that bad, but the idea has been ripped off so much since then that it's just cheesy now. But I doubt they are going to remake the first one as there isn't much of Jason in it More

but....its not a dead series! its still going, the jason character was very recently used in jason X - imagine if all films did this..i'm not sure i understand the reasoning behind this.. i get remakes, but why not just make another jason film? they can't be that hard to come up with, surely? More

L: shawshank prisoner ]thing is about the Friday the 13th series is that NONE of them were any good... it's become cult for a very bizarre reason.an Elm Street remake wouldn't be a bad idea though, as long as (wishful thinking) they didn't fuck up... sp; I don't think that's fair at all, as slasher movies go there are some pretty decent Friday the 13th movies out there (though some admittedly are pretty poor, Part V especially). You a re right none of them are good films apart from the fouth which is average it would be nice if they just nailed it with this new film just so there s a good jason film to watch. But im betting they might make the same mistakes as all the others dodgy acting and cheesy horror scenes.  More
