There's still some doubt about whether Tobey Maguire will reprise his role of Peter Parker for a fourth Spider-Man movie, but he's committed himself to another comic book adaptation that doesn't require form-fitting spandex.
Maguire will topline Afterburn, based on a recently published comic book series by Paul Ens and Scott Chitwood. The story is set on Earth after a cataclysmic solar flare, which has left half the planet scorched and anything living there mutated by radiation. On this ravaged planet we call home, a group of mercenaries make a living by extracting pricey artifacts, like the Mona Lisa and Crown Jewels, for a hefty pay day. But, this being a comic book, they have to face pirates, fellow hunters and mutated creatures along the way.
We're suckers for anything set in a post-apocalyptic world. Sounds like it could be great. |

Not every comic book is a Josh Kirby/Stan Lee style superhero piece. The Road to Perdition, From Hell and A History of Violence are all based on comics (although I prefer the film of History to the comic and the comic of From Hell to the film, whereas Perdition I like both versions equally). First off, the dude is in really good shape and not at all weedy and secondly we don't know who he's gonna be playing. I've read the book (brilliant by the way) and there are LOADS of characters he could play. More

Maybe he's a weedy mutant, scared of daylight? I don't mean that as a reflection on Maguire, I like the guy, but some roles I just can't see him playing. Wonder who's directing this. More
