New Issue Of The Gotham Times
Dark Knight viral campaign continues

26 March 2008  |  Written by Olly Richards  |  Source: Gotham Times

submit to reddit

The Harvey Dent strand of the Dark Knight viral campaign is rolling along nicely and The Gotham Times website has now updated with a new issue. See it here.

The headline reads "Harvey Dent Joins Race For Gotham DA". We haven't read all four pages of the paper yet, but the main article talks of Dent's (Aaron Eckhart) rivalry with another candidate named Roger Garcetti. We don't remember anyone of this name from the first film (are we wrong?) and he's not mentioned in the IMDb cast list for the new film (if you Google his name the first thing you get is this site). There's a photo of him further down the front page. A pie chart on the story has Garcetti just ahead of Dent in public polls, so he may figure strongly in the film. Forgive us if we're missing anything from ye olde Batman lore, but we don't believe this is a character from the comic books.

Elsewhere in the paper are stories on Batman stopping a gang; suggestions of public opinion turning against the caped crusader; news of nine people breaking out of Arkham Asylum (including The Joker?); something on Mob widows and an ad for St. Swithun's Church. There are also new pics of Batman and Commissoner Gordon.

We're going to try and have a read through the full thing tonight to see if there are any drivers to anywhere else, as there were in the previous issue. But, please, as ever, if you find something first, post it in the comments and we'll add any updates to the story.

the riddler is mentioned too....
you'll see in the letters to the editor page theres one sent in from Edward Nashton-aka Edward Nygma, aka The Riddler! Cool stuff, no? But I really doubt that the Joker was an escapee from Arkham...the whole "no name, no other alias" thing from the trailer indicates that they havent a clue who he is, he's just "the Joker", but if he was an asylum escapee they would instantly be able to go "oh, its THAT guy"....although Mr. J's sheer shit-your-pants craziness may ha More

The Carnival deaths...
The family that they've found dead are the wife and children of the guy that runs the transportation for Gotham schools (more specifically, the district of Gotham that the schoolbus that appears in the IMAX prologue comes from), so I don't think it's specifically referencing the Flying Graysons. Weirdly, also on that page, there's an advert for the Iceberg Lounge - the nightclub that The Penguin owns in the comics... More

the ad on page 4 mentions st swithuns church which if googled brings up this site: www.saintswithunschurch.org/hich has a box to search their records.. i tried the obvious names like wayne and dent but nothing came up.. also weirdly the word "good" in the schedule links to a picture of a map and a lot of these sites have maps on them.. perhaps its some sort of jigsaw puzzle?? RE:
Second paragraph of the lead story has: "Dent named reported mob leader Sal Maroni as one of his chief targets if he is elected" - Maroni is the gangster that scars Dent in the original comics. He's also mentioned on the letters page as being rumoured to have taken over the Falcone crime family. Is the Maiden Avenue Report website mentioned in the story on page 2 (/link]) a new one? It mentions the father of the murdered Gina Totericci was seen at a meeting for Citizens for Batman who have thei More

Extras
Firstly - FOUR pages, not six. Things to spot - an ad for the Iceberg Lounge, which is owned by Oswald "Penguin" Cobblepot. - the Letters section (2) has some good letters, including hints of the Joker (Afraid of Clowns?), the lyrics to 'Gotham City' by R Kelly from the Batman Forever soundtrack (Action - and Dent...), and the last letter (Dent Cannot Be Believed) is just plain cool. - The Gotham Fish Market story may be a reference to the famous Joker story 'The Laughing Fish' - More
