Neil Marshall Is Sacrilegious Doomsday director has his next project Source: Variety
With his latest film Doomsday on the brink of release, Neil Marshall has announced his follow-up project. The Brit director will continue his horror streak with Sacrilege.
Though he’s still keeping details fairly close to his chest, Marshall told Variety that the film "is set during the Gold Rush, a time remembered for incidents like the Donner Party. It is meant to be a pitch-black, gritty, period horror movie."
The Donner Party is not nearly so fun as it sounds. There was no cake, nor balloons. It actually refers to a group of American settlers in the 1840s who, when food became scarce during a harsh winter that kept them snowbound in the Sierra Nevada, resorted to eating each other. “It’s Unforgiven by way of H.P. Lovecraft, with that grim, gritty setting and a horror element nobody has seen before.”
Sounds like a solid basis for a good horror to us. That Marshall also says the film will have John Carpenter influences can only be a good thing, as long as he’s talking The Thing and not Ghosts of Mars.
1) Dog soldiers is not complete crap - low budget independent filmmaking with almost no distribution backing at the time and showed great directing skill
2) Doomsday is not a UK film - it is an american production
3) Doomsday is not a horror its a thriller
4)by marshall's own words its a homage film and stands up in its own right - its not great but a stepping stone to bigger and better things - a directors first time with big money and he went for it - good on him!!
5)support your UK direct... Read More

"Just a horror director" Personally good on him. Nothing wrong with this at all. Horror is great genre when it is done right and Marshall has proven he can do that. It's funny because Doomsday isn't all out horror and I feel he may have bitten off more than he can chew.
Don't get me wrong Im not saying he can't expand his scope however I dont think Doomsday has achived that, but heck I hope I am wrong. This knew film sound's great and bleak and that is why I like the guy. His film's... Read More
still dont understand the love Dog Soldiers received, it was, after all, complete crap. The Descent was mediocre and the trailers for Doomsday have alternatively had me bellowing with laughter or crying with despair for the UK film industry.
this, though, does sound a more interesting proposition. and if timon is right about the pitch for Eagles Nest, that is a film that needs to be made...but maybe not by marshall.

Isn't that kinda what happened in the rather ace- i should really watch that tonight- Ravenous? Mr Marshal is seeming to be a bit of a one trick pony to me, a la George Romero and Clive Barker. The Ford model T of Movies. Any genre you want as long as it's horror. ... Read More
like a fantastic premise. I love Westerns and Neil Marshall has proven himself a brilliant director. Don't think it really matters that he labels himself as a horror director, we need at least one person who can do it well. ... Read More
