Exclusive: Yates Updates On Potter 7
Is he going to finish out the franchise?

Exclusive: Yates Updates On Potter 7
After picking up the prize for Best Director at last night's Sony Ericsson Empire Awards, David Yates granted us a small chat about the rumours that he'll be the man to direct Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, bringing one of the biggest, if not the biggest, franchises in movie history to a close.

"We're talking about it everyday," said the director, who helmed Order of the Phoenix and is currently working on Half-Blood Prince. "But I can't really say right now. I'm tempted, certainly". You can watch the full video interview here (it's bottom-left), as well as others with Paul Greengrass, Matt Damon, James McAvoy and more from the night.

It's looking increasingly likely that Yates will be the man to take Harry Potter to the finish line, although there's still no official confirmation from anyone on the production. The studio and fans, as partly evidenced by his win last night, were extremely pleased with his work on Potter 5 and confidence seems to be very high for the sixth movie. Deathly Hallows will undoubtedly be the most difficult book to adapt, purely because of the amount of plot strands to tie up, and it would be a real challenge for any director. But, with the opportunity that the story gives to makes something cinematically incredible, we can't imagine Yates not wanting to give it a go.

Would you like to see him end the series?

What about... Burton? or Cuaron again?
It would be great to see a really really dark and cinic director such as Tim Burton for DH... either him or with another perspective... feelings oriented (despair, love, anger, envy, jealousy) like Alfonso Cuaron... He did a terrific job with the prisioner of Azkaban movie... Sooo, what do you think. ... Read More

RE: Second best movie from the hardest book
L: scudder Let's face it, Yates made a cracking movie from the hardest book to translate. Sure, Cuaron still has the best movie, but it's widely regarded that 'Azkaban' is also the best book in the series, barring perhaps the action-filled final story. I'd love to see Yates finish the job, and for my pennysworth, Yates' choice of composer Nicholas Hooper absolutely knocks spots off the frankly past-it John Williams. sp; Yes, who would want the greatest film composer of all time scoring... Read More

Someone else?
I've liked the fact that every movie has had a different director (except the 1st two), i think it's given each chapter its own identity. Let someone else have a go! If we have to have a returning director - make it Alphonse Cauron. ... Read More

Del Toro! DEL TORO!
Yates would be okay, I did like OotP, but at the same time he and Daniel murdered the scene at the end with Dumbledore. Harry is suppost to be mad and scream and wreck the place. It's the boiling point the whole book led up to and they just completely cut it out. Also book 5 and 6 are both more plot driven then action driven where as 7 is almost pure action. So I would love it if they could get Guillermo Del Toro, I agree with everybody that he could take the movie to an entirely new level a... Read More

Yates Bar
Yates is the best person for the final movie. face it. if his done a good job on OotP and HBP then its common sense for him to do the DH, just look at the nity gritty wizard fight at the end of OotP. it was amazing and had u wanting for more. not to mention the fight with dumbledore and voldemort, another amazing fight that had you begging for more. ... Read More

del Toro or Yates?
Some rumours says that del toro wants to direct it but del Toro does have quite a few projects now, maybe that's for the better considering that Yates already has directed two and that he knows tha actors and the plot. But since the last book is so dark etc I would have loved del Toro to direct he is awesome! Also heard that it might be two movies for the last book! I think that it would have been a good idea because we will have Harry Potter for one more year and we also get everything from the... Read More

FLASHMAN
The evolved darker 'mature' Spielberg would be ideal, but it might clash with his take on Abe Lincoln, the Tin-Tin flick, and the postponed courtroom drama about the 1968 Democratic convention & the time-travel effort called something like Wormhole.............the old boy can't do EVERYTHING. All that said, it would be great if even John Williams could come back, (as he wishes) to thread...er.........the lyrical narrative............ ... Read More
