Spike Jonze On That Clip
On Where The Wild Things Are leak

Many of you will know that there's been a clip doing the internet rounds recently, claiming to be from Spike Jonze's Where The Wild Things Are. We didn't post anything on it because it didn't look like the finished thing to us, mainly because the boy in it was clearly not the same as the one in the only official shot released so far. Spike Jonze has now released an official statement on the leaked footage. We believe this statement was released through Warner Bros, since we can find no other original source. Please correct us if it came from somewhere else and we will credit. He said:

"That was a very early test with the sole purpose of just getting some footage to Ben our vfx (visual effects) supervisor to see if our vfx plan for the faces would work. The clip doesn’t look or feel anything like the movie, the Wild Thing suit is a very early cringy prototype, and the boy is a friend of ours Griffin who we had used in a Yeah Yeah Yeahs video we shot a few weeks before. We love him, but he is not in the actual film…Oh and that is not a wolf suit, its a lamb suit we bought on the internet. Talk to you later…"

We're very glad to hear that, since the clip seemed quite disjointed, if charming. It's a real shame that this film keeps getting pushed back and that we now have to wait until 2009 to see it. We've always expected something weird but brilliant from the team involved and we hope we get to see that. We hope that these delays mean the film's being perfected and not that it's in dire trouble.

RE:
There's an outstanding article on chud.com now that states that Warner and Legendary are considering massive, massive reshoots, possibly with an entirely new script. It seems the test screenings they've had were disastrous--with kids crying even, and that Jonze's vision was too "subversive."  More

RE: 'We didn't post it'
Wow, Spyro, snippy much? (I feel it's time Buffy-isms were resurrected) Of course we wouldn't needlessly annoy a film studio, because we're not idiots. But this was clearly not finished footage and we're not in the business of running dodgy, potentially illegal, unfinished footage – particularly on films so highly anticipated by our readers. This is mainly because I don't see what service it does to film lovers who want to see movies looking as good as they can. We didn't run the pirated v More

Of course they didn't post it...
It was a delightful clip, but it was definitely not from the finished film, and Empire MIGHT have got in trouble posting it - not just because a studio would have been pissed, but who knows where it came from, could have been an illegal bootleg, etc... I never expected them to post it any more than I expect them to post dodgy camcorder-footage of trailers or something. More

Oh well, fair play to Empire for not posting the clip. More

'We didn't post it'
'because it didn't look like the finished thing to us' more likely you didn't want to piss off the film studio thus denying you future film access to actors, on set interviews etc. *tut tut* More
