Exclusive: New Indiana Jones Pic
Paramount and Lucasfilm have provided us with a brand new, exclusive image from Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, which you can see below and which is printed in full in the new issue of Empire, on sale Friday, along with another new still of Cate Blanchett in action as Agent Spalko. We also spoke with producer Frank Marshall about the fourth film in the Indy franchise.

"This picture is locked," Marshall told us of the current progress. "Steven's pretty much done editing. And we're going into the phase with John Williams where he starts scoring the movie. He's really writing now and then we'll start scoring in February".

Empire Magazine: Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

When asked where this movie sits tonally with the rest of the series, Marshall said: "I would say it's closest to the third one (Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade). It's all adults. I mean, you have the sidekick in Shia (LaBeouf), but you don't have a Short Round and I think the banter between the characters is as fun as it was in the third movie".

A new Last Crusade would be just dandy by us. When not discussing the finer nuances of Fassbinder or trying on Vulcan ears, we in the Empire office like to argue over which is the best Indy movie. There's currently a heated battle between the Raiders and Crusade teams.

One last piece of info: there will be an Indiana Jones Mr Potato Head. Greatest toy ever? Yes, readers, it just might be.
Update: Thanks to forum user morg1138 for poiting out that you can see the little spud here.

For lots more Indy inside news from Frank Marshall and more exclusive pictures from Indiana Jones and The Crystal Skull pick up the new issue of Empire, on sale Friday.

Indiana Jones and the Last Straw
No,no, please no.... I've had high hopes for this film ever since Spielbeard said he was channeling the original Raiders vibe, but if it's more like Last Crusade my hope is draining; it was more like an Indiana Jones spoof after all... Where Raiders Indy was devil-may-care, Crusade Indy was holier-than-thou, but I guess that fit with the worst mcguffin of the series. The Holy Grail? Jesus.... Then again as I soon as I saw a Crystal Skull still with Indy in a damned bow-tie my worries should ha... Read More

I don't think that all of the characters will be in Indy's 'gang' that travel with him. I reckon that it will be just Shia and Karen for the most part. That is the same number of 'gang' members as Temple of Doom - Willie and Short Round and the latter part of Last Crusade - his dad and Marcus. Truthfully I don't care how many 'gang' members there are, I'm just glad I get to see an Indiana Jones movie at the cinema!!!! ... Read More

Fools,...don't know they got! I'm just chuffed that i'm going to see another Indy movie...all key elements are back..it won't go wrong..why can't indy age?, why can't they get smart with the action and story? You want mindless set pieces to get your juices going..i hear Nic Cage/Disney got something out about...ah who gives a crap..oh yeah, Brendan Fraser's back with his Mummy whoop de doo!!...The Original Icon is Back..i'm excited..can't wait, you all want it to be good, and it will be. Really looking forward to this, Raiders of the Lost Ark and the Last Crusade are two of my favourite films ever. Temple of Doom, while good in parts, just doesn't compare to them overall. ... Read More

My only worry is that Indy has waaaay too many hangers on in this film (by the looks of it) - Ray Winstone, Shia Lebouf, Karen Allen..... too many cooks spoil the sheep's eyeball soup...... ... Read More

Best one? Raiders, of course.
I hope Harrison's over that earring-wearing, Ali-McBeal-dating, mid-life crisis business he went through a couple of years ago and plays to his age in this one. He's looking a bit too much like a teabag nowadays to play the action hero without an element of humour. ... Read More

Got to say I like all three of the Indiana Jones movies as each are a little bit different. At a push I'd say Raiders is my fave. From this photo it looks as if Indiana Jones is still the focus of the movie - as Marion and 'Mutt' are both looking at him as if he has just come up with some crazy idea or escape!!!! Can't wait to see how the plot plays out and how all of the official photos fit into it and where!!! ... Read More

Why the gang?
Why must Indy have all this "gang"? We have Marion, "Mutt" and let's not forget Mac and Abner. It's concerning me that this movie might be a bit of a "Famous 5" movie with Indy being the comic relief. ... Read More
