Exclusive: New Indiana Jones Pic
Have bazooka, will travel

Paramount and Lucasfilm have provided us with a brand new, exclusive image from Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, which you can see below and which is printed in full in the new issue of Empire, on sale Friday, along with another new still of Cate Blanchett in action as Agent Spalko. We also spoke with producer Frank Marshall about the fourth film in the Indy franchise.

"This picture is locked," Marshall told us of the current progress. "Steven's pretty much done editing. And we're going into the phase with John Williams where he starts scoring the movie. He's really writing now and then we'll start scoring in February".

Empire Magazine: Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

When asked where this movie sits tonally with the rest of the series, Marshall said: "I would say it's closest to the third one (Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade). It's all adults. I mean, you have the sidekick in Shia (LaBeouf), but you don't have a Short Round and I think the banter between the characters is as fun as it was in the third movie".

A new Last Crusade would be just dandy by us. When not discussing the finer nuances of Fassbinder or trying on Vulcan ears, we in the Empire office like to argue over which is the best Indy movie. There's currently a heated battle between the Raiders and Crusade teams.

One last piece of info: there will be an Indiana Jones Mr Potato Head. Greatest toy ever? Yes, readers, it just might be.
Update: Thanks to forum user morg1138 for poiting out that you can see the little spud here.

For lots more Indy inside news from Frank Marshall and more exclusive pictures from Indiana Jones and The Crystal Skull pick up the new issue of Empire, on sale Friday.

Indiana Jones and the Last Straw
No,no, please no.... I've had high hopes for this film ever since Spielbeard said he was channeling the original Raiders vibe, but if it's more like Last Crusade my hope is draining; it was more like an Indiana Jones spoof after all... Where Raiders Indy was devil-may-care, Crusade Indy was holier-than-thou, but I guess that fit with the worst mcguffin of the series. The Holy Grail? Jesus.... Then again as I soon as I saw a Crystal Skull still with Indy in a damned bow-tie my worries should ha More

I don't think that all of the characters will be in Indy's 'gang' that travel with him. I reckon that it will be just Shia and Karen for the most part. That is the same number of 'gang' members as Temple of Doom - Willie and Short Round and the latter part of Last Crusade - his dad and Marcus. Truthfully I don't care how many 'gang' members there are, I'm just glad I get to see an Indiana Jones movie at the cinema!!!! More

it's not the years, it's the milage....
Fools,...don't know they got! I'm just chuffed that i'm going to see another Indy movie...all key elements are back..it won't go wrong..why can't indy age?, why can't they get smart with the action and story? You want mindless set pieces to get your juices going..i hear Nic Cage/Disney got something out about...ah who gives a crap..oh yeah, Brendan Fraser's back with his Mummy whoop de doo!!...The Original Icon is Back..i'm excited..can't wait, you all want it to be good, and it will be. Really looking forward to this, Raiders of the Lost Ark and the Last Crusade are two of my favourite films ever. Temple of Doom, while good in parts, just doesn't compare to them overall. More

My only worry is that Indy has waaaay too many hangers on in this film (by the looks of it) - Ray Winstone, Shia Lebouf, Karen Allen..... too many cooks spoil the sheep's eyeball soup...... More

Best one? Raiders, of course.
I hope Harrison's over that earring-wearing, Ali-McBeal-dating, mid-life crisis business he went through a couple of years ago and plays to his age in this one. He's looking a bit too much like a teabag nowadays to play the action hero without an element of humour. More

Got to say I like all three of the Indiana Jones movies as each are a little bit different. At a push I'd say Raiders is my fave. From this photo it looks as if Indiana Jones is still the focus of the movie - as Marion and 'Mutt' are both looking at him as if he has just come up with some crazy idea or escape!!!! Can't wait to see how the plot plays out and how all of the official photos fit into it and where!!! More

Is it just me or does Harrison Ford look a bit worn out? Looking forward to seeing this movie but can't help thinking he looks too old! Sorry Harrison fans! More

Why the gang?
Why must Indy have all this "gang"? We have Marion, "Mutt" and let's not forget Mac and Abner. It's concerning me that this movie might be a bit of a "Famous 5" movie with Indy being the comic relief. More

UGonnaBark AllDayDog? - post
Yes, it's hard to define what exactly it is about Shia I don't warm to - I don't think he's a bad actor, I just would have prefered a film that didn't throw in a young lad for all the kiddies out there "to relate to". It just doesn't sit right with me. You're right, Indiana doesn't seem to be the main focus... More

May I interject...
Is anyone else 'slightly' worried that in all the official photos Harrison looks like he is playing second fiddle to Shia? He looks like a confused old man being taken around by a teenager? I hope...hopehopehope.. that this is certainly not the case. Please don't destroy this franchise. Even when cast alongside characters (Henry, Shortround, Sallah) he always was the leading man, and had all the good action scenes to himself. Lets hope it stays this way... but must admit, my doubt grows stron More

Looking Good!
I really can't wait any longer for the new Indiana Jones movie, it looks so good and a new picture of it has made me even more exicted! Shia Labeouf looks darn fine and even Harrison Ford looks well though he's sixty-five! I don't know which one is my fave one out of all the films, they are all good full of action and romance. Hopefully this one will be up in my good books and I'm sure it will. More

Confused?
It's so funny, Harrison Ford looks more like a confused old pensioner than he does Indiana! I'm still finding it very difficult to get excited about this film. I think it's probably the inclusion of Shia LeBeouf - I seem to have a problem with that guy. More

Cunningmunki
'cunningmunki': Some people (well, Indians!) think Temple is racist because it shows Indians eating Monkey Brains and Eyeball Soup. When I was a wee lad I remember being at school and some kids, after seeing the movie, actually asked me if I ate Monkey Brains at home. Of course, I told them I did as well as eating live insects, eye-ball soup and the rest of it. Those peeps were not racist, just stupid. Bit like Jade Goody. The other thing that pissed some Indians off was showing devotees to More

Crusade's the thematically deepest and funniest, but I think Raiders is so much more iconic and a bit more gritty. So the former is my favourite, but the latter is a classic, if you get me. In any case, will Indy finally blow up the Ark, judging from this image? More

L: Ben Myers Crusade, the weakest?? You can't be serious. The best action, the best jokes, it's got Sir Sean as Indy's dad for christ's sake! The weakest McGuffin it may have, but I'll say it again. Sir Sean as Indy's dad!!!! sp; I agree. It's certainly not the weakest. The weakest has to be Temple. Don't get me wrong, all fantastic films, but I judge Raiders and Temple on the same level. RE: Raiders Vs. Crusade
This is disappointing news for me.  Crusade, whilst fun, is easily the worst of the films so the idea of the new film being similar tonally to that doesn't bode well.  A film closer in tone to Temple of Doom would be most welcome. More

I can't believe there is even a contest between these 2 movies, not surpising to see the racist Temple of Doom left out entirely (although I am sure there are some numskulls who ignore the wider picture and rather their faces with popcorn). (Raiders everytime, btw). More

Crusade was workmanlike in my opinion and a pale imitation of the best bits of Raiders so hopefully this one won't be a Xerox of a Xerox with the Russkies replacing the Nazis and Marion adding to the deja vu. It's down to Shia Leboeuf's character to breathe new life into it really. More

Last Crusade is terrifc fun, but the weakest film...
...it's the only one that feels like it's starting to repeat itself, what with its self-conscious attempts to ape Raiders. The character comedy and Sean Connery make it all worthwhile though. Raiders remains the masterpiece; Temple of Doom is a worthy, exciting and refreshingly different follow-up. As long as Crystal Skull brings a new twist to the table, I'm happy. More

Temple of Doom is hugely under rated, the action is great (mine truck chase?!) and the banter is just as good as any of the others. I suppose given my support for Tim Dalton as the best bond, I guess I'm used to rooting for the underdog. More
