Star Trek Viral Campaign Begins Yes, kids, you're gonna get teased again
You can't really call yourself an event movie these days without some kind of viral campaign. So, obviously Star Trek's has just begun.
If you click here to head to the official movie website and then click on the little blinking red dot next to the Star Trek logo, you will be taken to a site with the URL www.ncc-1701.com that features four screens showing very fuzzy footage. If you play with the little frequency bars underneath you can bring them into focus to show a bunch of men working on the Enterprise. To be honest, it looks much like footage from the teaser. But, it could be that something interesting will be revealed here over time. A brief shot of a corridor also flashes up if you leave the screen untouched for long enough.
We've had a lot of viral campaigns recently and, in the cases of The Dark Knight and Cloverfield, they've been excellent. Are you ready to commit yourself to another one or are you sick of viruses? Have you found any more secrets in the Star Trek campaign?
I'm in agreement with Mad Dog, magnusbarford and similar posters here: all this viral shennanigans smacks of nerdish obsession. Put out there to generate message threads on geek forums. The rise of viral promotion is, however, inevitable and will soon be the mainstay of all movies, not just the blockbusters. Yay, and the geek shall inherit the earth. Looking forward to the new Trek movie though. Is this an odd or even numbered one? Just so I can get some idea if it's going to rule or suck. ... Read More
I'd rather all these viral marketing campaigns were a little bit more... physical. I'm not the sort of person to endlessly click and search for clues on obscure websites- and actually get nothing in return. (Did the Dark Knight virals actually yeild anything interesting??)
Much better would be something to make a statement. For exmaple, for the Dark Knight, a campaign of actual sightings of batman in major cities? or a littering of (biodegradable) joker cards leading a trail of clues that ... Read More
Only 3 screens at a time seem to work. If you refresh the page, the offline screen changes and the other three show an image. A bit weird if you ask me. I didn't get into the Dark Knight/Cloverfield campaigns (too late) but this seems like overkill... ... Read More

I've had enough as well. Viral campaigns are cool for films like Dark Knight, and Cloverfield as it's in keeping with the movie. I dare say has the Wachowski's made Matrix right now that would be viral overload. Still, it's cool if you have the kind of job or home life that allows you to click off lots of hours on the internet without anyone asking too many questions - or banging on the door. I'm with Mad Dog, give me a good trailer and poster (Iron-Man for example) and I... Read More

How is puzzle solving and code cracking in keeping with the STAR TREK mythos? A big new shiny film like this needs a big shiny marketing campaign to win over the old faithful fans (who are probably already pissed off by the teaser).
ithout making presumptions im pretty sure that its the hardcore trek fans that will be the most intensely commited and interested in this marketing event. if anything, this sort of promotion is designed and aimed at the old fans. ... Read More

the old faithful fans (who are probably already pissed off by the teaser).
peaking as an old faithful fan I can assure you that you're dead wrong. The vast, vast majority of us loved the teaser. The only sticking point being that the Enterprise is being built on Earth and not in orbit at the San Fransico Shipyards (which is not a problem for me as the ship was built on Earth but assembled in space (think International Space Station)).
How exactly has the t... Read More
