Weta To Make Justice League Costumes
And is Brandon Routh still Superman?
Source: Coming Soon/AICN

Weta To Make Justice League Costumes
It’s all been a little quiet on the Justice League Of America front for a couple of months now, with one rumour indicating that the George Miller-directed DC superhero mash-up would be affected by the Writer’s Strike.

Certainly, we thought we’d be hearing casting confirmations aplenty now, but so far no white plumes of smoke have been seen billowing from the chimney stacks of Warner HQ to denote the appointments of a new Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern et al.

But, according to an article in New Zealand newspaper, The Dominion Post, work is progressing nicely on the movie, with Weta Workshop now on board and slaving away on the costumes required to bring a group of superheroes to big-screen life.

"They are doing all the costumes and they're doing a brilliant job," said the movie’s producer, Barrie Osborne, speaking to the paper from Sydney, where it will be shot. "A lot of people thought it would be too hard, that you can only make those things in Hollywood."

Osborne also hinted that Weta Digital may do the visual effects for the mega-movie, which Warner Brothers hope will kick-start several new franchises. "George Miller has a great take on the material, so it elevates it to something that's not a comic-book movie," he added.

As ever, when casting news is revealed, we’ll bring it to you. It seems certain that the Justice League movie will reveal a new actor in the role of Superman, as has been the plan all along.

However, there is good news for Brandon Routh, who played the Man Of Steel in Bryan Singer’s Superman Returns. It was rumoured last week that he would no longer play the character in WB’s standalone Superman movies, but Moriarty from AICN has made some calls and is now stating that that’s not the case. Apparently, if a new Superman movie is made, with or without Bryan Singer, then Routh is first on WB’s list.

As far as Empire’s concerned, we still can’t see why Miller and WB don’t just cast Routh – who was the best thing about Superman Returns by a Krypton mile – in Justice League and be done with it. We still say that having two big screen Supermen (Routh and whoever they cast in JLA) and Batmen (Christian Bale and the JLA guy) running around is going to lead to mass confusion and possibly even riots.

e looks of things at the moment it seems that the justice league won't be made anytime soon so really their is nothing really to worry when they've haven't got a finished script that needs re writing for some daft reason. ... Read More

RE: aidanf
L: aidanf Do Superman and Batman have to be featured in Justice League? Instead of having two major superheroes who are in fanchises of their own, why not focus on the others Green Lantern, Green Arrow, Martian Manhunter, etc and how they came together to set up the "League". If the makers really wanted to have a Bats/Supes presence, they could tease something at the end of the film where the Justice League start contacting other heroes and have the two of them contemplating joining. This... Read More

RE: Weta To Make Justice League Costumes
L: dracovir Totally Routh.  He was an awesome Supes, if slightly awkward as Clarke Kent.  He was still the best thing in the film and if there's any truth in that WB are blaming him for Returns not selling as much as it could have, they seriously need to go to film school. Still, with Weta into adding superhero films to their slate (rather than, say, California based houses like ILM) and the level of quality they put out these days, can only be a good thing... sp; Com... Read More

Bowl of Wrong - I only responded to say that is...THE GREATEST AVATAR EVER! I was literally mesmerized. Oh and incidently I agree with your take on the topic too. This is a Justice League movie. It has nothing to do with Nolan's Batman universe. And anyone who thinks Christian Bale would want anything to do with it is kidding themselves. ... Read More

RE: Weta To Make Justice League Costumes
Having Bale in would be a terrible idea. This movie's universe is going to be a world away from the Nolan's Batman one. do people really think it would be a good idea for Bale's grittier, down-to-earth Batman to being sharing the screen with Aliens and god knows what else. Are you lot insane? That goes for you too Empire. I'd rather people be confused at two Batmen etc. than have Bale sully himself with this film. ... Read More
