Singleton Confirms He's Joining A-Team John pities the fool Source: Black Voices.com
If no one else can direct, and if you can find him, maybe you can hire... John Singleton! Yes, the Shaft director is on for another TV show adaptation, as he confirmed the rumours that he's set to bring BA, Face, Murdoch and Hannibal to the big screen at last.
The rumours have been flying about this project for years, but Singleton's hiring is a big step forward. He told BlackVoices.com that he's planning to update the show from the original premise, which had Vietnam vets on the run for a crime they didn't commit, helping innocents while staying one step ahead of the law.
Appanrelty the film version will "reflect contemporary issues and politics", which we suspect translates as "cast them as Iraq war veterans on the run from an increasingly paranoid government" and will be "less cartoony" than the original, in more of a Die Hard or Lethal Weapon vein. It remains to be seen if the latter will actually happen - after all, even Die Hard 4.0 was a bit cartoony, and that seems to be the way action films are going these days. Still, we can hope - and as long as someone locks the gang in a warehouse full of spare parts and welding tools at some point in the iflm, we'll be happy.
Still no word on a start date or casting - so let's see if we can help Mr Singleton out. Who would you cast to fill the ginormous shoes of the original quartet, Empire?
murdock: has to be jim carey, jonny knoxville would probably do a good job too. ba:its a close contest between michael clarke duncan and ving rhames but i think ving rhames would get my vote. face: its got to be brad pitt but i would also settle for matt damon. hannibal: well there is only one and that is george clooney perfect! i can just picture him saying "i love it whan a plan comes together" with a fat cigar hanging out his mouth. ... The only way I can see this remake working out is if they stick their tongues firmly in their cheeks and play it for laughs. Send up the naffness of the TV original (i.e. millions of rounds of ammo discharged with not a single casualty and Mr T falling for the same dumb trick to get him onto a plane each week) and you've got the makings of a classic comedy. Even attempting to 'reflect contemporary issues' is going to ruin it. And opting for the Die Hard jokey stunt bonanza is neither fish nor fo... Read More
