First Look At Speed Racer
8 pics from the Wachowskis' next

06 December 2007  |  Written by Olly Richards  |  Source: USA Today

USA Today has scored the first eight pictures from Speed Racer, the next movie from the Wachowski brothers. Click the image below for the full gallery.

We think the look of this film is really going to divide people. The brothers have really gone for a cartoon look in adapting the cult anime. Seriously, this is bright. Do not view if you have any kind of hangover. This is a family film, so the look may prove to be the perfect choice for conveying simple family fun. But could it risk turning off the Matrix audience who will be so anticipating it?
First Look At Speed Racer
Also, we must apologise for the fact that the images here suggest that there were clearly crossed wires when Emile Hirsch told us that the movie would shoot all on green screen. There are obviously sets present.

So, how do you feel about the Speed Racer look?

RE: This looks so wank, it beggers disbelief
L: coomi01 The cartoon was shit, and this looks shit. God help us if it gets a U rating. Plus it looks like the boys have let their fetish hobbys creep into the film too. Talk about big ol gay leather bang fest with cars. i read a while back that they were gunning for a G rating in the states! More

you know, if they're really going to go with this ammount of CGI it would've made more sense for them to just do an animated film. More

RE:
that shot of the racetrack reminded me for some reason of one of the first imax films called rollercoaster through new york. If they made this specifically for 3d and the race sequences were partly from hirsch's perspective it could be a very exciting movie. More

This is going to be horrible! The TV show was so bad it was hillarious, how do you think it's gonna look like on screen? Even worse and lamer. More

Marmite?
This film is either going to be terrible or total genius. The pic with Matthew Fox catching that dudes fist reminded me of Orgazmo for some reason. Looked slightly Choda Boyish. Incidentally, are they still the Wachowski Brothers since Larry's op? Or was that just one big lie that I fell for and just made myself look like a fool? More

wasnt going to so this...however
this looks excellent. fortune favours the brave and no one does brave better than these guys. look at the first matrixn see that the 2 n 3 failed because they backed off the more difficult aspects. cant wait now More

Looks fine
I think it looks fine (at least te race track). Really reminds me of certain arcade-racegames. Could be fun to watch that on the big screen. More

Brilliant
I love all of the matrix films annd i haven't seen bound but the wachowski's have their own style and way of doing things and i respect them for that when we live in a world with audience testing and eveybodies got to be politically correct, the visuals and the whole design of the film looks awesome. It looks like Tron crossed with Cars and Dick Tracy, have to say this is looking intriguing a long as the Wachoswskis don't fall into their usual trap of taking it all way too seriously More

RE:
I can honestly say I enjoyed all three Matrix films.  Yes, even Revolutions.  However, I just can't muster any enthusiasm for this movie.  Was there ever any demand for a live action Speed Racer movie?  It certainly looks faithful to the cartoon, but that isn't necessarily a great thing in this instance.  The monkey is cool, as monkeys always are, but everything else is just too OTT.  I have a feeling this will be a Batman & Robin/Avengers/Flintstones styl More

RE: HAHAHA
it looks interesting enough. iv never been a fan of the wahowski's (i really didnt and dont like even the first matrix) but this does look kinda fun. then again, any film witha monkey in the boot of a car will garner my attention for at least five minutes. More

#All in unison, a capella style#
Here he comes, here comes Speed Racer, he's a demon on wheels! Turn, turn, turn, turn... I think it looks pretty cool. Apart from Matthew Fox. He annoys me. But why does Emile Hirsch look a lot more... tanned, I suppose, than the close up of him in Picture 8? Confuzzling... More

Well points to the Wachowskis for wanting to do something different. Hopefully it'll be an enjoyable film, although I won't be first in line. More
