Ray Park Joins GI Joe He'll play Snake Eyes in Sommer's movie Source: slashfilm
Remember just after The Phantom Menace when Ray Park, aka Darth Maul, was set to be the next big thing? He went on to play Toad in X-Men and was rumoured for all kinds of other projects that never quite panned out. But now he's back back back.
Slashfilm has revealed that Park will play Snake Eyes in Stephen Sommers' upcoming movie version of the GI Joe line of toys. The film already has Sienna Miller in its cast as The Baroness. We have to admit that we have next to no knowledge of GI Joe, on account of not being American. So we'll refer to Slashfilm's synopsis of who exactly Snake Eyes is:
"Snake Eyes is one of the original members of the GI Joe series. Hasbro has released over 30 figures of the character since his debut in 1982. Not much is known about the ninja master’s real identity, as it has remained classified throughout the series. The U.S. Army Sergeant First Class (E-7) is known for his stealth like movements and extensive knowledge of multiple forms of martial arts. Snake-Eyes is romantically involved with fellow G.I. Joe member Master Sergeant Shana M. O’Hara, a.k.a. Scarlett."

OK I thought it was Storm Shadow not Shadow Storm. Anyway, I couldn't remember that well, but even though he always wore a mask I do recall him looking oriental. So like EdwyrdHyde pointed out its going to be a bit of a challenge finding a tall, english speaking oriental actor. And by english speaking I mean fluent with no or minimal accent.
Really I can only think of a few names that fit the bill. For some reason "American Oriental" actors (for lack of a better term) a... Read More
Snake Eyes is by far my favorite character from the comics and I'm not sure Park is the right choice for the part, well he's certainly got the physical strength and prowess to pull of the action scenes, but he looks nothing like the original character, Snake-Eyes is tall and blond (his face was destroyed but later restored) ,Park is short and dark-haired. I suppose if this is supposed to be the first in a line of G.I. Joe films it doesn't matter, Park will be wearing his mask constantly and not... Read More

Ray Park is an awful actor, ... that's also why his voice was dubbed over in Phantom Menace, but DAMN that boy knows his martial arts!
t wasn't because he couldn't act, it was because Lucas wanted Darth Maul to seem intelligent and well spoken, as a contrast to his monstrous look and he didn't want maul to be a cockney!
that I'm saying cockneys don't sound intelligent of course...)

Well, as an american, I can safely say that other than being a tad too short for the role, the decission of Park playing Snake Eyes is an obviously smart move. As far as competent actors with the capacity of ass-kickin' moves go, he may not have a history of memorizing a lot of dialog, but he will surely do the part justice. A marvelous dancer in the field of martial arts, I would be hard pressed to doubt his capabilities in effectively kicking Cobra butt! ...Just as long as ... Read More
Ray Park will make a fine candidate for Snake Eyes as it has been made unanimous by the readers of this fine video-media magazine. However, for the target role of Shadow Storm, you have quite a hunt ahead of you, indeed, should he find his way into the film. Shadow Storm, or Tomas S. Arashikage, is a tall oriental man with shaggy black hair and dark eyes. Though many actors could fit that description, do consider that he was quite tall by oriental standards and spoke fluent english, havin... Read More
This is great fucking news! I was a fan growing up and Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow were by far my faves. I mean they were like fucking ninjas. They could take out a small army. Park is so smooth and fluid on screen. Darth Maul was just awsome in the duel with Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan.
And, like others have said, NOBODY should even bring up his voice or acting. Snake Eyes NEVER talked and always wore a mask to conceal his disfigured face. All Park has to do is look total badass.
