Guy Pearce On The Road?

Guy Pearce, four time winner of the Sharpest Cheekbones in Hollywood Award (he lost out to Christian Bale's performance in The Machinist one year, and I hear he's worried about Rescue Dawn this year), is apparently set to join the cast of John Hillcoat's The Road, based on the Cormac McCarthy novel.

The story basically involves a man and his son walking through a post-apocalyptic landscape in search of water, food and some place of safety - in that order.

Hillcoat previously directed The Proposition, which of course starred Pearce, lending credence to these reports - even though long-standing rumours of Viggo Mortensen's casting were around as recently as last month. But it remains to be confirmed - and a lot of the success of this adaptation will depend on the casting of the boy (both characters are unnamed in the book). Still, it's a storming book and one that we hope gets the adaptation it deserves.

L: mrwinky99 What's with the uac shit? As a big fan of this book (yes..the CORMAC McCARTHY BOOK) I'm excited and a little fearful of the adaptation. This was bearly even a 'story' let alone a film. Let's hope whoever gets infront of the camera can project the range of sentiment needed. Pierce is good but in the end I think tone and direction that will decide if this film succeeds or dies on its ass. I'm hoping that it's shot in B+W or some sort of desaturate. RE: Superb choice
i too thought this was a casting announcement for the adaptation of kerouac's book, a project whih has been in development since the late 70's if im correct, by francis ford coppola, with walter salles attached to direct at the moment. coincidently i wouldnt mind seeing pierce in either of the main roles in kerouac's story, i think he could pull off either, and hes a lot better than some of the people rumoured to be a part of it (colin farrell, im looking at you). ... Read More

RE: Superb choice
Thank God, when I saw the title I thought plans were afoot to film Kerouac's 'On the road'. Considering the likes of Ask The Dust and Factotum I would rather Hollywood left ] literary classics alone.   But as for this other book, it could be good, may even look up the book and give it a read. ... Read More
