I have the faith, if not the confidence. James Doohan was quite solid. Even though he was at times the funny character, he still had authority, the engineers always jumped at his commands. Does Simon have the same presence. Or accent for that matter...? I like Pegg but was very suprised by the casting! He must be over the moon! (no punn intended)

Whats all this about accents . Seen it in a few places . Doohan was not Scottish , he was from Canada . Same with Pegg , n More

I like Urban, a bit surprised to hear him cast as Bones though.
I always thought Bones was a bit more of an academic. "He's dead Jim!" More

Look at a picture of each of them - Urban with short hair of course - its almost as good as casting Quinto for Spock . The "look" is right . More

nesesorry Gary Sinese? He is 55! Chris Pine playing Kirk is 27, there is being a bit older (Urban is 35 which works the older bit) but Sinese is a completly different generation! (sorry about the pun!)

Fucking hell all this fuss over something thats been reicarnated more times than Michael Myers.
Its a prequel to a TV series and Film series at a time where things are being remade as well as re-imagined.
Just let JJ work his stuff....he hasnt really put his hand to anything bad and has a damn sight better film mind than most working in hollowood.
The cast is for starters atttention grabbing and just the sort that one expects JJ to get the best out of.
I am not a big trekkie and ha More

Is Karl Urban Bones? No, I don't think he is. I liked the idea of Gary Sinese, and he is older than the rest of the cast which would fit in with the characters too. More

Why is everyone getting so worked up about this stuff? Everyone seems fixated that the actors should look and act somewhat identical to the original. That's not the post of a prequel. Of course they'll look different and maybe even act it in their younger days.
I think the choices so far are good ones, if JJ thinks they are right then maybe we should trust that. More

Agreed. Paul McGillion from Stargate Atlantis is perfect for the the role of Scotty. There is a manip about halfway down this page proving that

I have no objections to any of the other actors. More

This is just the usual hype cos no one can be bothered to think of better casting. Find an unknown who looks and sounds like Bones and people will be happy. Still not happy about Pegg as Scotty either. More

Genre isn't the problem...
...the fact that 'Doom' and 'Chronicles...' were terribly was down to script and direction, not to the fact that they're sci-fi films. As long as the script isn't pish he has as good a chance of being great as anyone else. More

Urban is an action star and not a very good one at that. This role required an 'actor' as I can't recall the old Bones running about blowing shit up. That was the Shat's job. More

Difficult to imagine but...
...I reckon J.J. knows what he's doing. Urban seems a bit too well built compared to DeForest Kelly, but he can always shed a few pounds. Or maybe Bones was more into the gym when he first left the Academy and then let himself go :-)

Almost as important as how people act is how people look. There is a lack of beauty in the cast at the moment (except for Simon Pegg), but Karl would address this imbalance. We want more hotties! More

I think there is definite method to JJ Abrams' madness. Karl Urban isn't the kind of actor you would associate with this role, unless Bones is going to get involved in some action hi-jinks (hope not!). I personally think that he, like Pegg, will defy expectations and pull this off. Looking forward to it. More

Dammit Jim, i'm a one note actor not a pool man!!
Karl Urban, although a big name is in my opinion a highly overated actor, and not a good choice for Bones. He can only do the moody, monotone dark horse type character,...you know, the one who wears a constant frown that says dont underestimate me or i'll cave your head in, (or something).........you get the point! Can he do an angry doctor that playa second fiddle to the likes of Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and Simon Pegg?? Methinks No! More
