John McTiernan Heading To Jail
No, really. That's not a film title.

You remember last year there was a huge scandal around Anthony Pellicano, a private eye who had allegedly done many a bad thing for many a big Hollywood name and was going to cause many of them to go to jail? Well, most of the more lurid predictions of the case failed to come true, but at least one big name is off for a spell in sing-sing.

John McTiernan, director of Best Action Movie Ever Die Hard, has been sentenced to four months behind bars for lying to FBI agents during questioning in the Pellicano case. He pleaded guilty to charges of making knowingly false statements when he was questioned about asking Pellicano to wiretap the phone of producer Charles Roven, with whom McTiernan worked on Rollerball.

Pellicano tried to retract his guilty plea(!), but the request was denied by U.S. District Judge Dale Fischer, who sentenced McTiernan to a four month sentence, two years of supervised release and a $100,000 fine. No charges were brought against him for making Rollerball in the first place.

How come?
How could one of the world's best action directors sink so deeply into the mudd? McT is, in my opinion at least, a top-notch director and, though he may not quite be a James Cameron, just so much more talented than, say, Michael Bay or that pillock McG. But many of his latter efforts truly were dreck, and this is finally a conclusion to a very unworthy period for such an accomplished director. Does anybody know what happened to him, say ten years ago? Was it booze, or some marital troubles? Ther More

justice at last!!! Let that be a lesson to other once great directors - dont sell out and do a crappy remake - it'll end in tears.. Hope they get Schumacker for denying getting this guy to tap the toy makers phones on the set of Batman And Robin next. oh and someone get that fella who remade Get Carter as well..he needs a spell inside too More
