Justice League Movie Definitely On
And George Miller is directing

21 September 2007  |  Written by Olly Richards  |  Source: Variety

submit to reddit

This isn't really strictly news, since it's already the worst kept secret on the internet, but Warner Bros is definitely moving ahead with a Justice League movie. Now, once you're back on the chair you just fell off, we'll continue.

The fact that Variety has reported it seems to make this absolutely true, since the trade paper very rarely reports on anything it doesn't 100% know is happening. Variety today reported that the superheroes-form-a-supergroup movie is a pre-strike priority for Warner Bros; George Miller (Happy Feet) is directing; and it will be the studio's big movie for summer 2009, which is currently looking a bit barren for WB.

There are no confirmed characters – although Variety really sticks its neck out there by saying Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Aquaman and The Green Lantern may all appear – but Warner are said to like the script by Kieran and Michele Mulroney.

So, think of this as a confirmation of rumour, rather than new surprising actual proper news.

RE: Singer? You're aving a larf
Never liked the expanded DC universe as much as the Marvel one, so I have very little interest in this movie. Like someone said earlier, the contrast between dark characters like Batman and camp ones like Wonder Woman (her name alone makes it impossible to make her anything but "fun") simply can't work on screen. There was already the possibility that the new Superman franchise was going to take a turn for the stupid with the introduction of his super powered son, but don't let this film ruin t More

if JLA is gonna be CGI/Motion capture characters like Polar Express or Final Fantasy or the new Beowulf then could it be possible that superman could be done so as to resembal Christopher Reeve's face? using footage from his superman and other movies as another actor portrays the body movement? (as they normally do in those CGI films) Reeve is the definitive Superman and in Superman Returns Singer made an intentional effort to hire a guy that sorta resembled Reeve when made up (blue conta More

...you seriously want Singer involved after that abortion of a film he made from our beloved Superman mythology... if he had his way all the characters would never be true to the original comic-book roots & they'd have bastard children running all over the place. RE: CGI I Guess........
Warner Brothers are courting Ryan Gosling for the role of Batman and want Tom Welling to play Superman, which given the fact that Green Arrow and Aqua Man appeared recently in Smallville suggests that it be a continuation of that series. The Gosling and Welling thing appeared on Dark Horizons by way. More worringly it's been suggested that Warners are not impressed by the relatively low box office takings of both Batman Begins and Superman Returns - and that Bale and Nolan won't be returning More

CGI I Guess........
The one thing that is not made clear is whether JLA will be Real life or CGI!!!! I would guess it would have to be CGI as a movie with too many stars would have a budget that could buy a third world country plus the director could be a big giveaway!!!! The problem is will they make it photo real CGI or make it 'tooney? also wouldn't it put in jeopardy a Wonder Women or Flash or Green Lantern movie at least for the forseable future????? however much I would LOVE to see this film I don't think WB More

Oh dear
I find it very suprising that WB are pushing on with this idea. Both Nolan & Singer went through vigorous casting processes to find their Batman & Superman. Now we know Bale & Routh will not be appearing in JLA, so unless its going to be motion capture with actors only lending their voices, the two main leads are going to be filled with sub standard actors who wern't good enough for the two previous directors! waste of time
a complete waste of time for everyone. George Miller used to be a great director (Mad Max) but those days are long gone. This will not appease fans of either Superman or Batman (especially Batman) as Justice League comics were always very poor in comparison. Might as well get Adam West to play Batman as it's not going to be anything like Christian Bales' version. More

RE: AWFUL!!!
This is a very bad time for a JL movie. Both the Superman and Batman franchises have been reborn.   Added to which the very concept of a JL is problematic due to unbalanced powers. Does Batman really belong in the same movie as Superman? More

AWFUL!!!
It's too early to do this project. The Batman/Superman franchises are just pitch perfect right now. Don't dilute the magic. Indeed, if you wish to club together superheroes, well why not just a Batman & Superman film. Now, that would work. Make sure it is Bale and Rooth in the roles, too, for continuity. More

I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN BUT...
10 years ago, maybe through special effects just becoming believable there were the no superhero films going, no creditable anyway. Burtons Batman and Superman were the only exceptions and then the sequels happened and BOOM two dead franchises. WHY???
I can't believe they're making this! I agree with davesmith1187 - The new and improved Batman franchise will end up going the same way as Joel Schumaker's "Batman", while the more mature version of Superman will become Saturday morning fodder! Leave this film, let it be an animated series. We all want to see individual films of Wonder-Woman, Green Lantern etc. I'm dreading the summer of 2009 already. hmmm... maybe?
I agree with everything said so far. Doing this now, while Batman and Superman are just getting going again, is just crazy. But perhaps we're being hasty, not having any idea what the story will be about. A full-blooded Justice League will be very camp and ridiculous, no matter how they try it. But if they take a Kingdom or even a Marvels approach? It could work. The latter especially because the heroes were shadowy background figures and the story concentrated on the normal people trying to liv More

As well as buggering the Bats/Supes franchises, I think it also scuppers the possibility of getting Wonder Woman, GL, or Aquaman movies. Or at least, their portrayal in this movie will probably influence any individual movies they're in. If they're gonna do a JL movie, I'd rather it tied in the the Singer/Nolan series, which I can't see happening, as they look like different universes, if that makes sense (also can't see Routh & Bale reprising their roles) More
