Mere moments after being cast as the elder Ms Jupiter in Watchmen, Carla Gugino has lined up another plum role - she's playing the female lead opposite Robert De Niro and Al Pacino in Jon Avnet's film Righteous Kill. The Heat reteaming casts De Niro and Pacino as two New York cops chasing a serial killer. Gugino's character is a crime-scene investigator with "a dark personal life" who has a relationship with De Niro's character. It's hard to overstate how important this news is for film fans everywhere. Not only are the Two Greatest Actors Ever (says popular wisdom) reteaming - and getting more than one scene together this time, presumably - but fanboy fave Gugino is joining them. It's as if millions of filmfans all over the world cried out for her - and were suddenly answered. Russell Gewirtz, the writer behind Inside Man, is responsible for the script, and Jon Avnet will be directing, and keeping his fingers crossed that the result is better than his previous collaboration with De Niro, 88 Minutes.
