Ryan Reynolds Makes The Proposal

If we were to tell you that Ryan Reynolds had been cast opposite Sandra Bullock, and then ask you what genre film you reckoned they'd be starring in, you probably wouldn't say "existential body horror". And sure enough you'd be right, because the comedically-gifted pair has signed on to star in romantic comedy The Proposal.

Bullock will play a demanding boss who suddenly faces deportation to Canada - until she decides to force her young assistant to marry her, thereby securing her that elusive green card. So basically it's a lot like Green Card, only with less Frenchification.

The pairing of Bullock and Reynolds is no bad thing - both have excellent comedy chops, even if Reynolds still needs a breakaway hit that isn't Van bloody Wilder. But on one level, the choice of casting is downright hilarious in itself - Bullock's actually American, while Reynolds is Canadian. Why, it's a crazy reversal of fortune between real life and the movies!

Ahem. Peter Chiarelli is writing the script, but there's no word on a director or other cast yet. Watch this space for further crazy North American cross-overs!
