Following that, The Rum Diary will be next on his list, based on the Hunter S. Thompson novel (remember kids, Depp already starred in Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas and became friends with the gonzo journalist, although Rum was written before his gonzo style really developed), with Withnail & I's Bruce Robinson adapting and directing. The story is about a reporter writing for a rundown newspaper in 1950s Puerto Rico, and was written when Thompson was 22 but not published until 1998.

Dark Shadows, announced last week, and the murdered-Russian spy story Sasha will be slotted in sometime after that. So that's his timetable, and we hope it sets your mind at rest. At the very least, it's good to hear that The Rum Diary will finally be going into production soon.
