Spider-Man 4's Villains?
Raimi speculates about the next bad guys

Sam Raimi was out and about in LA on Friday night to present an award to young filmmakers who had made Spidey spoofs, and took a moment to speculate on the possible future for Spider-Man on the big screen.

"If I can't find the right story that would work for me and that I could tell really well, I would like someone else to tell that story," he said of the already-announced "Spider-Man 4." But if it's a great story and Sony will bring me back to the screen, I would love to." He said he would want to bring Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst back too.

Much more excitingly, he also took time to talk bad guys, and here's his leanings. ""I would love to see Electro, Vulture, maybe the Sinister Six as a team," he said. For those of you who spent your formative years out in the fresh air (who boast the powers to, respectively, control electricity and fly while looking ugly), that would mean a combination of the aforementioned pair along with fellow baddies Kraven the Hunter (big game hunter type) and Mysterio (illusionist), and the return of Doc Ock and the Sandman.

On the other hand (and perhaps more realistically) Raimi has considered bumping up a supporting player. "I love Dylan Baker as a person, and I really like the character he is developing," Raimi said of Dr. Curt Connors, Parker's one-armed, screen-time-challenged professor in the first three flicks.  "The Lizard is probably one of my favorite characters. But ['Spider-Man 4'] will probably have to start with the central journey of the main character to arrive at the proper villain."

Connors, incidentally, joined the SInister Six when they became the Sinister Twelve, but given that Spider-Man 3 had too many baddies with three, let's not rush that into production, eh? For the full interview, check out MTV at the link above.

Kingpin wasted
So the Osbornes are dead, why not bring in the Kingpin? Daredevil's take on Fisk was just nowhere near what he deserved. Give him a fully fleshed out role with Smythe and the Spider Slayers. Throw in Jameson putting a bounty on Spidey's head, and maybe an appearance by Punisher, and we may get somewhere More

spidey 4 villians
gutted that James Franco's character is dead; his and Maguire's relationship was by far the best in the films. Personally would love to see Venom again; he and Doc OCk are the most prolific villians i n the comics and he was destroyed far to quickly. Don't howl at me but would also love to see Black Cat introduced as KIrsten Dunst is a whiny sap in the films - especially hte las t one!!! More

keep it simple...ish
How about the Lizard and the Hobgoblin? Personally I've always preferred the hob' to greenie, and it was be easy enough to carry out. Connors is already in place, and the goblin could have a traditional spidey creation someway through the film, and hopefully MJ dies somewhere along the line. No clones allowed. More

I would like to see Sam stay as long as the studio give him the same amount of freedom as they did for the second one. Villains wise I think the Lizard would be good as it would present a challenge to Peter who has to battle his mentor and friend. Having multiply villains would  work if the Lizard was one because you wouldn't need to spend half the movie introducing him (AKA like the sandman) and you could have other villains such as the Vulture who could link in with the Conners' story a More

The problem with SPIDERMAN 3 was that it was all too much and not enough. Too many villains, too much plot strands and the pace falters at several points. If they are going to do a fourth one, I hope they'll have only two villains and a storyline that doesn't get too many story points. More

Six villains? Have they learned nothing from no.3
True, Batman Begins had a lot of villains, but it was written well enough that no one villain was sacrificed in terms of quality so another one could be squeezed in. Spiderman 3 on the other hand had the evil suit, Emo Parker, Sandman flicking in and out of the story whever the writers deemed it necessary, and Venom who only shows up for the last 20 minutes.
