Monday News Round-Up (March 12)
Potter Stamps, Richard Jeni R.I.P., more

12 March 2007  |  Written by

HARRY POTTER AND THE GAUL PHILATELIST

A new collection of stamps was released in over the weekend, featuring the images of Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley. La Fete du Timbre et de l'Ecrit 2007 (Stamp Festival), which takes place in more than 100 cities around the nation, proudly sent the collection out into the world at the price of €6.18 (roughly £4.22). The images  - which are of Daniel Radcliffe & pals, not the illustrated Potter of the books, are expected to go like hot cakes.

RICHARD JENI DIES

Comedian Richard 'The Boy From New York' Jeni died on Saturday March 10 from a gunshot wound to the face. The Brooklyn born comic never made in movies as big as he deserved to, but did appear memorably as Jim Carrey's best friend in The Mask, and dished up his own version of the notorious gag in The Aristocrats. But it was on HBO stand-up specials in the where he really made his mark, often breaking ratings records for that particular category. Jeni was alive when his girlfriend found him and called emergency services, but died a short time later in hospital. Police have not yet ruled his death a suicide. He will be missed.

HUH-HUH, HUH-HUH

This year's best horror-that-sounds-like-porn title now has a cast. The Midnight Meat Train will be played out by Vinnie Jones, Brooke Shields, Bradley Cooper and Leslie Bibb later this month in Los Angeles. It's about a serial killer who preys upon his victims in the subways, or something. We can't properly remember right now – we were too busy sniggering like second years – but we'll keep you posted.

ROB SCHNEIDER WILL RETURN

You can expect Rob Schneider to turn up in Adam Sandler's next comedy. After his turn in Click as a humorous foreign type, and several other appearances in Sandler's lighter films as humorous foreign types, the Schneiderster is in talks to appear in You Don't Mess With The Zohan, as… jeez, this 'gag' isn't even worth finishing. The film has been written by Judd Apatow, Rob Smigel and Sandler, concerning a Mossad agent who fakes his death and winds up with 'hair stylist' as his new occupation.

AND THE GOOD COMEDY NEWS JUST KEEPS ON COMING

Katt Williams and Eddie Murphy, the team who brought you Norbit - which yes, was number one at the box office this weekend – have announced plans for their next outing, Marshals. To be fair, the premise for this one sounds a hell of a lot better than Norbit, focusing on the first black marshals of the old west. We're certainly hoping for laughs more in the range of Blazing Saddles than, say,  Wild Wild West.

Midnight meat train... YAY!
Oh man, I hope it's good. Though the first two names being Vinnie Jones and Brooke Shields scares me a bit... More
