Exclusive: Transformers Roll Out
With only five months to go until Michael Bay’s Transformers start smashing the crap out of each other at a cinema near you, everyone who knows their Autobots from their Decepticons is desperate to catch a glimpse of these most feted of 80s animated icons. Of course, 2007 might all be about the movie, but for those of you who remember visiting the toy shop circa 1986, the real allure of Transformers were the toys.

So, as July 27th approaches, Hasbro has given Empire an exclusive first look at the brand new Optimus Prime(s) from their upcoming movie toy range:

Visit our Transformers Future Film page for more on those shape-shifting robots.

Calm down!
THEY ARE TOYS FOR KIDS! I used to collect them, when I was a 10 or so, and yes they were better materials than todays, but the screws would come out, hinges would work loose, the painted metal chipped. The Megatron gun was cool in a pre-Columbine/Michael Ryan way, but pretty much fell apart after a while, and the robot-mode looked shocking and didn't stand up. Anyway physics means that a 30 foot robot CANNOT transform into a handgun. Ever. All an Autobot would have to do would be to pick it ... Read More

bad transformers
they dont even look like the 80's G1 version, and in fact there suppose to look like the 80's version. I think this film is going to be crap cause megs should be a gun not a car, and iron hide a red van, optimus a red truck like we saw in G1 and beast wars. ... Read More

well!
ive been collecting since 84, there is alot about the movie that im not so pleased with but the main thing that we have to remembers is this transformers have shall i say transformed for more than 26 years now. thats the point. eg. beast wars, beast machines, oh and i think that the worst line that they produced was that pretender series that didn't even transform they that dumb plastic shell. so this line is ok its not gen one and i am one of the many not thrilled that bumble is a camaro but t... Read More

Crappy, crappy, crappy
They look so cheap! I remember I had an Optimus prime that was made of really heavy metal and only his trailer was plastic. It used to hurt like hell when my brother used to swing him by the legs and smack me over the head with him. I can remember Megatron being a really cool realistic metal gun as well. Try marketing that in today's society! ... Read More

RE: ierr-orr-ier-ienn! (noise of trasformation)
The New Gen Optimus toy does look a little ropey Transformed, but so did the 1st gen Toy.   From what i've seen, Screen caps and other images and think these new designs will work pretty well in the new film. Although i admittedly do have some major reservations with what i've seen of the new designs for Megatron and Starscream, Bay also doesn't have the best track record.   But i am going to wait and see what the finished product delivers before is start slagging the fil... Read More

ierr-orr-ier-ienn! (noise of trasformation)
Suspiciously looking robot-like trucks turn into truck-resembling robots? Cast your minds back boys (and girls). Transformers toys always looked slightly ill-shaped. The show was all about comercialism in the biggest sense. But hell, robots AND cars? Every 8 year old wants to see that! P.S. yes, we all know Michael Bay is lame. ... Read More
