Exclusive: Empire’s Silver Surfer Cover
Our new cover specially designed by Weta

Here at Empire, we never rest in our attempts to bring you all the biggest film news first – and this month is no exception. The new issue of Empire has a limited edition cover exclusively designed for us by those clever boys and girls at Weta, celebrating the character that everyone is talking about from Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.
Yes, that’s right, ol’ Norrin Radd, aka the Silver Surfer, is getting his moment in the spotlight, just beneath our cleverly co-ordinated silver logo. And it’s all thanks to Weta’s finest, who worked overtime and against the clock to get us our cover (thanks very much for that, guys ‘n’ gals) – note that our favourite baldie boarder is using the Power Cosmic as he flies, a first glimpse of that effect. This isn’t the first time that Weta has produced a cover specially for us – they did our rather spiffy King Kong cover back in 2005 – but it carries on in that grand tradition, and follows on from our ILM-designed Transformers cover just two months back.

But that’s not all in the April issue. We also have an exclusive set report and interviews from 300, the lowdown on Danny Boyle’s trippy, scary sci-fi adventure Sunshine, a first look at American Gangster and exclusive interviews with Mark Wahlberg, David Lynch and Sienna Miller – plus all the news and reviews you’d expect from the world’s best movie magazine. It’s on sale from Friday, and in the more enthusiastic newsagents from today – so what are you waiting for? Get out and buy it now!

Not a particularly impressive image. Just a shiny bald bloke, which I do realise is true to the source material. It is just not that good a rendering. More

Alternative cover
When the Limited Edition runs out, they've just got a brown paper cover with a scrawled message saying "should've bought it earlier sucker, or better still subscribed" More

Calm down, people
I love pointless cynicism. Sheesh, it's just a cover and it looks cool. Oh, and Total Film will NOT catch up quality. Empire is still the far superior read by far; and it's not like Total Film don't cosy up to people. An exclusive Clerks II DVD presented by Kevin Smith with this months issue! Wow, that couldn't possibly have something to do with their 5 star score for it, could it? Nah, impossible. I'd rather have a bit fuck-off silver guy on a magazine than a picture of Mark Wahlberg anyd More

Fuck the Silver Surfer.More comic-book shite.Where's 300? Er...never mind. More

Who cares about the silver surfer?!
You should have given us a cover of 300, a movie so awesome - and I quote from a review - "it will give your eyeballs boners when you watch it"! At least give us a poster, some cards, something, c'mon, I mean this is THE MOVIE OF THE YEAR, nothing will even come close to it - you know it, Helen O'Hara! More

RE: What about a 300 cover??
Well admittedly I usually care about what's in the magazine rather then what is on it... perhaps that is short-sighted of me.  But the cover looks fine, the Silver Surfer looks reasonably impressive, and I'm sure whatever the film is like, it will be reviewed impartially.  300 would have made a very good cover, but then getting WETA to design your cover is a bit of a coup... might as well broadcast the fact! RE: What about a 300 cover??
Nothing wrong with the cover in itself. But it is ther comic book cover. t exactly for a highly anticipated release either. No doubt we'll be getting the second Spider-Man 3 cover shortly as well. Still better than having Tom Cruise on it, I'll admit. More

What about a 300 cover??
Seeing as 300 is coming out next month, I'm surprized Empire hasn't got this film on the front cover. It is the film most people are excited about in the next couple months and it would be a damn site more interesting than what looks like a Rolls Royce Hodd Ornament. More

Tomdods. That's unfair in some ways. You can hardly blame Empire for putting a top quality, world exclusive image on the cover. You can trust that it won't stop the review from being honest if the film is rubbish too. I understand what you mean about recent covers, but i think that is more a reflection of the fact that the last 6 months has been really quiet for franchise movies and there is a real risk that the summer is going to be disappointing with all the '3' movies risking established repu More

WHY does empire insist on putting comic book films on the cover almost every month? Especially ones that are certainly going to be rubbish like fantastic four 2. Its almost like its turning into a magazine about comic books instead of about FILMS.... More evidence of epmire going downhill and that Total Film is catching up in terms of a quality read. A shame More

did you see the first one?
showing a lot of optimism in backing a sequel to a film that even my 10-year old nephew thought was crap. Between cosying up to producers and selliing dvds on your website - it's had to consider your reviews as impartial. More
