Exclusive: Optimus Prime Arrives!
“One shall stand, one shall fall” said the greatest Transformer of them all. But that was twenty years ago and a lot has changed in robot world since then. Optimus Prime – leader of the Autobots and all round good egg – is back and so is his evil nemesis Megatron. Oh yes, 2007 looks set to be the year of the Robot In Disguise and to celebrate, Empire has been granted a very, very special Transformers treat.

Yes, Empire’s new cover is led by the first world exclusive shot of the new, shiny, totally-rocking Optimus Prime. With director Michael Bay, producer Lorenzo DiBonaventura and one Steven Spielberg all fuelling Empire’s excitement by getting the boys and girls at ILM to work overtime on the Prime image, the result is everything you’d expect from a Transformer – imposing, powerful and awe-inspiring. Roll on July 27.

Click the thumbnail below to view the cover in full.

The new issue of Empire will be on sale January 2nd 2007.

Give it a chance
Imagine the cartoon just "transformed" (excuse that) into a life action movie. It would be crap - all the robots would look awful. From the looks of things, the movie looks like being seriously good AND with nod to the cartoon. So give it a chance - and in fairness, Soundwave in his old form wouldn't fit in at all. That's why Frenzy is there ... Read More

as much as i cant wait fro this movie i cant help but think there going to change every thing about the robots. i hered sound wave is not in this movie for 1 with to me is bollocks y? u say!! cos they didnt think people would get the idea of a robot useing video as a tranformation!! so what do they want transforming ipods? yeah right!!! another 1 is the voice over, they must get this right or it could look corny. i prey hollywood dont rape this like every thing else and stay true to the franch... Read More

RE: RE:
L: Timmy6983 I hate people that are scared of change -I'm guessing you guys live by the VCR or think that Tony Blair is the best Prime Minister ever, and should never leave cause a new Prime Minister won't have the same touch - same with this film - accept the era you are living in! Optimus Prime is Prime as long as he transforms into a Truck, is the leader of the Autobots and has a faceplate - what more can you want? He's got his original voice back for christs sake! agree with all of... Read More

RE:
L: CameronJames Season 1, 2 and the japanese episodes of tranformers are some of the greatest moments in cartoon history, season 3 and 4 (if you can call it a season) we're terrible, as was the animated movie, but no matter what you think of the cartoons, that guy on the cover is not optimus prime sp; I'd happily watch season 3 over season 1 of transformers anyday - the 1st series was boring and repetitive, the only gd episodes were the 2 trilogies 'More than meets the Eye + The Ultima... Read More

Quite clearly, he is! Aside from the flames which I'm not too bothered by, I think it is as close to the cartoon Optimus Prime as you could get for a live action, realistic and MO... Read More

RE: bah!
L: clarkkent ginal transformers cartoons were bollocks! lets be honestng this personal opinion in mind i have to say the trailer for the movie has me excited (altho not as excited as the TMNT trailer! to quote a certain lean, green fightinng machine COWABUNGAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!! sp; And a cartoon about 4 Turtles flushed down the toilet, then contaminated by some sort of radioactive ooze that causes them to mutate, who then train to be Ninjas with a giant rat that used to be ... Read More

My god, its not full of stars!!
Are there any big stars in this movie? Not wishing to come across like a total "talent whore" but box office is very often affected when there isn't a name on the poster for people to want to watch. Now in the case of the Transformers the title of the movie might be enough to sell it, but that ain't enough these days, again Michael bay is a great director of action movies and even when the public stay away his films are always entertaining and sometimes epic (see Armageddon and Pearl H... Read More

RE: Pimp my Prime
L: Cuchulainn L: indysgill Still dont like the flame paint job. Pimp My Transformer...ote] Does anyone else think complaining about a few decals on a paint job on a truck that not only talks but transforms into a 40 foot robot from another planet seem a little strange to anyone?! If a truck can talk and walk then it can also afford to have a few little flame decals surely?! Its like saying War of the Worlds is 'a bit far fetched'.... Just had to tell you this great lit... Read More
