Exclusive: Scott Retools The Warriors Tony plans bigger, bangier update
Tony Scott, creator of bespoke celluloid chaos since 1985, has revealed exclusively to Empire that his next project, a remake of Walter Hill¹s The Warriors, will be a very different take on the gritty tale of a gang of teenage hoods battling their way home across enemy turf. For a start he's moved it 3000 miles West, to L.A.. "Well, New York is visually vertical," he tells Empire, "and L.A. is more horizontal so that¹ll be a big visual difference."
Taking on what has become a cult classic isn't something he takes on lightly. "I really hate remakes, but the The Warriors is one of my all time favourite movies, and what I'm doing is kind of reinventing it. And rather than a gang it¹s going to be 30 guys who take on 3,000. It's Kingdom Of Heaven meets The Warriors. We're going to use the L.A. River bed as a major location."
As usual Scott¹s been doing his research, which in this case sounds pretty hair-raising. "I've been meeting all the [real] gang leaders, they¹re saying they¹ll sign this treaty for the duration of the shoot," Scott reveals grinning. "I want this shot of 50,000 real gang members all on Long Beach - The Crips, The Bloods, the Vietnamese, the Cambodians, the 18th Street gang, all there. It's going to be cool."

Tony Scott has never impressed me very much and I doubt this will change my opinion of him at all.I can think of some good films he's done (True Romance,Man On Fire,The Last Boy Scout,Crimson Tide) but on the whole his films are insubstantial, glossy tripe.e sloppy joe to Ridley's fillet steak...ote]

Warriors is one cool classic movie that Tony Scott could make a great remake of or end up messing up a perfect career, and spoiling a great Rock'n'Roll of a movie. So i'll reserve my wrath till i see it!!! ... Read More
I could not believe it when i read that Tony Scott was going to remake The Warriors, which has always been one of my top films. Scott's rushed, mtv style has always annoyed me. He's vastly overrated. Absolutely no point in remaking this - it's as good as it will ever be. 30 gang members in the gang, jesus, yeh, i can really see excellent character development there. Bloody remakes, where's the originality going these days, there were countless remakes last year and most of them were awful. Are w... Read More
Awsome, can't wait like the great Tony Scott, The Warriors is (one) of my all time faves and with his style should be a match well made. Nothing wrong bringing an original film up-to date with a bit of modern filmmaking. So the gangs might kill each other (tough shit) and there might be shit in the world, but when I go cinema I tend to forget about it for a couple of hours, thank u very much. ... Read More
reckon that the names he will have of the gangs will totally pathetic and crap sounding and really cheesey to say the least, in the original the gang names were so rock hard that you wanted to join that gang. ... Read More
Tony Scott is a good director and Walter Hill, who did the original film, is doing the script, so I think this might just work. Although I really dont see the point, since the original still packs a punch. ... Read More
