Leary Story
Leo DiCaprio starring as LSD icon

29 June 2006  |  Written by   |  Source: The Hollywood Reporter

Leonardo DiCaprio’s getting caught in the counterculture – in a biopic.

He’s been working on an untitled film about LSD guru Timothy Leary for a while now, ever since he knew the man before Leary’s death in 1996.

Now DiCaprio has hired The Dying Gaul writer Craig Lucas and Leary historian Michael Horowitz to crack on with a script that chronicles part of Leary’s early life. Leo plans to star as the famed spokesman for the LSD crowd who had an interesting life even before he became known for his turn on, tune in, drop out stance on life. Enrolled at the West Point military academy in the 1940s, Leary ended up escaping from prison in 1970. Should be quite a film…

60's drug culture
This topic has been dying for the big screen treatment. Think of the cameos... The Beatles, Hunter S. Thompson, Ken Kesey & The Merry Pranksters. They should also make a movie of the Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test. More

And his last GREAT performance was....?
Sorry, but for me DiCaprio's in the same boat as Depp or Pitt, over-rated prettyboy actors who compensate for their talent-deficiency by choosing off-the-wall oddball roles guaranteed to attract attention. No? Just me then More

Can't wait
Big fan of Leo, think he's a little under-rated. If its anything like his acting in Basketball Diaries or Catch Me If You Can, think we're in for a real treat. More

this is pretty exciting news. Leary needs a good biopic, and hopefully Leo will deliver. More
